    Morning all,

The total PAD for 13 December 2023 was £57.31

Sometimes we all feel like a hot mess, and it is often hard to see how far we've come or what we have achieved, but we can see it so easily in others. We need to show ourselves the same grace and understanding that we easily afford to others. As life is about progress, not perfection and acknowledging that...

  • Well to sort of finish the year off I can make a nice big PAD of £559 today.  We have joint finances which I tend to run so this is from x2 bank switches plus some cashback from them, a £50 compensation payment from another bank for a complaint I made, £45 from supermarket savings incentives, an small eBay sale and finally my husband pays £1 a week into a lotto syndicate which paid out £125 this Christmas - so £52 gone back in for next year leaving £73 cash winnings!  Not bad work.

Debt and Mortgage free from 2018

  • So I've been thinking about my financial goals for next year and have decided a slightly different approach to 2024.  Instead of setting specific goals I've decided to just PAD what I make over and above my usual income (which is complex).  I took early retirement when my parents died so our household income is from my husband's pensions (he's a lot older than me) and interest from my inheritance (which isn't massive so still need to budget very carefully until I get my SP in 5 years time.

I will PAD to the penny everything I make from cashback, store card points, eBay sales, bank switches, casual work e.g. Poll Clerk for a day, occasional mystery shopping etc etc. I am going to start from today and amend my signature from below to a new one.

    Thanks for listening:!

That's a great PAD amount @Sallyforth and it sounds like you've got a good grasp of what you want from 2024 and a cumulative approach will help you.

I'm still figuring mine out, but I'm definitely going to be more realistic with my debt repayments and try to build some savings.

Going into 2024, I am only going to PAD my OPs to the mortgage, extra payments to the F&F pot and the stuff that goes into savings pots or holiday pots etc.  I'm not going to include the regular DD's & bills etc,

  • @Makingabobor2 that strategy makes sense to me too. Obviously it’s up to the individual so whatever works for someone is good.

Yes indeed. I know some people like to count all their normal monthly payments etc, but to me that doesn't make sense as I'd be paying those anyway, even without this challenge. So for me, a PAD is an extra daily payment that i have been able to make, either by not spending so much, or my some extra income that has come my way.

  • Evening, PAD of £3.30 today.

@Sallyforth a fantastic OP there! Also like your plans for 2024, I haven't thought that far ahead yet! @Makingabobor2 I think this is a good way to think about it, I have tended to follow this plan with mine, it has made such a huge difference in the last month and a half!
  • Morning, PAD of £11.08 today
