I came across this article on styling this morning and found it quite interesting. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has looked in a changing room mirror, decided against buying something, then put my own stuff back on and decided I wouldn't buy it if I tried it on today! It's probably about time I got things out and had another look at them. I used to use the 'save your wardrobe' app which helps with putting outfits together but perhaps I'm jut not adventurous enough for that...No man is worth crawling on this earth.

Cherryfudge said:And another interesting article I spotted: for those not-so-new-looking charity shop finds: Crotch blowouts and bobbly knits: how to save secondhand clothes from smells, stains and other surprises (msn.com)
Some useful tips. I never thought of freezing jeans!
I'd heard about freezing clothes before, but that was if you got chewing gum stuck so it'd go brittle when it froze hard and you could shatter it to get it off.I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.4 -
Cherryfudge said:@Brie, I think there might be a fix for that if you re willing to get out a needle and thread. Get a bit of fabric (personally I envisage neon range or Barbie pink but it could be black or anything really - this is going to be A Feature) and make a tube. You could just stitch wide ribbon if you wanted. Make it quite a bit too long to go from strap to strap at the back. Then thread wide elastic through it. The elastic is going to pull the straps slightly together so the fabric gets very ruched. Sew through all the layers at either end so everything is secure.
Doe that make sense to anyone but me?The end result should be that the straps are drawn towards each other across your back.

Was just passing through Ripon today but somehow managed to pick up, from the Cancer Research shop, a baby blue 4 ply cashmere sweater with a cable front pattern from The Cashmere House for £6.49. Found it on their website priced at £209
. It's two sizes bigger than I normally take but I don't mind the oversized look with jeans. I noticed a very small faint tea (?) stain on one arm and knew I would be washing it and very probably shrinking it in the process but no.....appears unscathed this time!!
Also got a pair of M & S 100% heavy linen straight legged black trousers from the Samaritans shop for £4.95. I seem to remember reading that heavy linen doesn't crease as easily as the finer stuff....here's hoping!!7 -

I'm not far behind your mother @DigForVictory - not quite 7 decades but not far off!6

My secondary school uniform (60’s) was black blazer etc
Black wasn’t fashionable then !5 -
Brie said:perfectly sensible. I do something similar with jeans that are too big at the waist - slipping a flat bit of elastic through the top tube bit between the 2 side seams.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

I had an amazing unscheduled stop at one of my favourite chazzers today (I was on the way to the bank but realised I wouldn't get there before it closed at stoopid o'clock). A cute pink handbag and a grey cardigan jacket (I'm thinking ahead to winter already) for £2 each, 6 scarves for £4 and drumroll.....the full set of horrible histories for my little niece for £8. £16 well spentNo man is worth crawling on this earth.

@Miró how did you wash your cashmere? Or did you do a spot clean?
Good find on the winter weight linen trousers! I love mine. I very rarely see them in cs's now, and when I do they're never the right size. And yes it is more resilient to wrinkles and crinkles
Edit - speaking of linen. I took a deep breath and bought some Marks' linen bedding when it was on offer a while back. It is definitely worth the money. I've found it feels better next to the skin if I don't use fabric softener in the rinse cycle, but an extra rinse is worth itI removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.8
