An afternoon trip to Thirsk resulted in the purchase of a b/n Max Mara, black wool jacket for £7.50 from the Herriot Hospice shop. Scary RRP prices around £400 online 😳

I had a great morning chez chaz! Purchases were plenty, amongst which were several more scarves, a long summer dress, more books, a CD, and the following items BNWT. Similar dresses on the website are £60 (I paid £6) and its a size too big but will be ideal for the autumn when it finally comes:And here it is on the Joe Brown's website:No man is worth crawling on this earth.

I cycled to our posh suburb today and visited the four charity shops there. In the Animal Sanctuary shop I bought 2 boxes of cream horn moulds, £3 each, a shot glass ice tray, £3, and a jigsaw of one of the pictures from The Lost Words, £2.50. Then I called into Oxfam and bought a British Library Crime Classic and a Donna Leon, £2.99 each. Across the road in the Helen & Douglas House Hospice shop I snapped up a pretty check sleeveless Land's End top, £4, some black marl pull-on Sahara trousers, £15, and 2 Rowan pattern books, £1.50 each. I did call in to the Scope shop but didn't find anything I liked there. I've found the Land's End top here but can't find the trousers anywhere, sorry.
I have been trying to phone the Barnardo's shop that was closed on Thursday to see whether they are open and am not having any luck with contacting them so I'll have to hope that no-one else has been able to buy the book I've got my eye on and try again on Monday.5 -
I hit the Bedale car boot this morning as well: all I got was three folder for £1 and a children's book for 10p - I was steering strictly away from yet more clothing!
@Miró, I was wandering round charity shops the other day wondering which lady was you! The one with the blonde plait and the one with the pale pink coat were possibilities. Of course, it's entirely possible you were nowhere near but surely we must have crossed paths at some point?

One more day in Canada and haven't made it to any of the "thrift" shops. A bit disappointed but I do have my mom's silverware packed to go so that's nice.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. I think you've got the important stuff, @Brie. Thrift shops are fun but memories are personal. Safe journey home.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Some great bargains - love that dress @Rosa_Damascena 😊
I went to the car boot this morning despite a late night. Some items to Bay of E for charity:
Three Whittard mugs £1 for the large, 50p each for the small ones, Harrods 2016 Christmas bear for £1, Percy backpack 50p plus some fragile tape for £1. I got a cake plate for us 50p and a book and some scented votive candles for 50p each which will go to the bring and buy charity event.Cross-stitch WIP: Fiver Friday challenge 2025 founding member 😊 Read 25 books in 2025 11/25 Currently reading The Cliff House by Amanda Jennings10 -
@goldfinches - we have to see a pic of the cream horns you produce!
@Cherryfudge, its not stalkerish at all to be curious. Every time I see a lady with a dog in a chaz it does cross my mind that it might be @Wednesday2000 !
@Brie - Canada is a lovely place, I felt very "at home" there and can see why people migrate in that direction. Have a safe trip back!
@Coxy11 - I love the cat book, I've seen it before in a chaz and although I resisted buying it, flicking through it made me smile from ear to ear.

@Brie - wishing you a safe and hassle free journey home and I'm looking forward to hearing about you using your mother's silverware to eat some delicious dinners.
@Coxy11 - some really nice bits in your haul and the cat book made me laugh too.
@Cherryfudge - I agree with @Rosa_Damascena that you're not being stalkerish at all. Whenever I see a piece of Denby I think of @DigForVictory, scarves remind me of @Brie while very smart clothing makes me think of @Miró and I sometimes wonder if we'll ever meet and imagine what everyone would wear and say.
@Rosa_Damascena - I had this recipe in mind when I bought the cream horn moulds because I didn't much fancy the idea of wrapping cones in foil and I'm more confident with bread dough than pastry.
I cycled to the Oxfam Superstore today as I've never been there before and there's a tolerably safe cycling route most of the way if I go along the river path to bypass the centre of town. It was quite difficult to find from the main road because there's no board giving the names of the companies in the private business park which straddles a main road so I was glad to have g**gle maps in my pocket. The superstore is a fairly big warehouse divided into areas by display shelves and it was quite busy at around 2pm too. I bought a fleece hat made by Avon, £2.99, an Australian Women's Weekly collection of birthday cakes, £4.99, and two British Library Crime Classics by John Bude, £2.99 each. Then I had a look at a rack of as new denim and found two pairs of lovely soft, thick, dark jeans by Artigiano, £10.99, and Urban Outfitters, £12.99.
Having looked around most of the areas in the superstore I can see that customers are expected to pay a premium for shopping there, especially for clothes, so I will stick to the regular charity shops locally in future. I'm glad I went to have a look and see what I thought but probably won't go back again, especially as the kitchen and household section didn't have anything interesting."She could squeeze a nickel until the buffalo pooped."
