@Miró
good thing we weren't all in the shop at the same time. There would have been a brawl to get those glasses and likely one or the other would have been broken. To say nothing of a couple of our hard heads!!!

Eta: just checked the Trolley site and de Kuyper Creme de Menthe is nowhere to be found. What kind of lunacy is this?!No man is worth crawling on this earth.

How about a couple of extra strong mints marinated in vodka and poured from a vintage hip flask whilst traversing the North Yorks Moors in search of the Northern Lights? 🍸9 -

I've just come across this article about second hand September, and it's got me wondering about why people choose charity chops. For lots of us here I suspect it's the thrill of the chase and the fact you literally find things in charity shops that you'll never see elsewhere (1980s Denby or Uranium glass for instance). For me - emergency holiday wardrobe! I also love clothes but don't want to add to the environmental problems they cause, and obviously I save money and support charities by buying second hand. And then there's the entertainment value of shopping and having something 'new'. I think all those apply to me.
On the flip side, I now have too much stuff and find it hard to choose what to re-donate. I've also found some clothes persist in smelling of someone ese's washing powder, which is intrusive, and a lot of charity shop stuff doesn't appeal, either because it's bobbly or because, well, who would wear some of the horrible designs you come across?
Have I missed any good reasons for buying? Or reasons for not buying!

I think I'm very similar to you Cherryfudge. This is a huge sweeping statement but - I like decent clothes and I like clothes better when they've softened from lots of washing. And that's what I get in charity shops (generally speaking). I know they sell new things but I never find the cut/fabric/stitching to be as good as some of the old stuff I have. My favourite pair of jeans are BHS and I think I might actually have a little sob when they die. The only way I'll be able to replace them is if I strike it lucky in a charity shop.
I have too many clothes as well really, but I see something I like and I'll get a lot of use out of it I'll buy it. I'm operate a strict 1-in-1-out policy now mind. I donate the thing that I've just bought a replacement of (itms), so while I've still too much it's not getting any worse.
I also don't like the 'fast fashion' element at all. A girl I used to work with never used to wash her clothes because it was bad for the environment. so she'd wear something once and then bin it and go to Primark and buy moreA quick vox pop showed she was far from alone in that.
I like the surprise of charity shops myself. The rails aren't all stacked with whatever nonsense we're supposed to be wearing this month, each shop is different and I love that.
Also - booksI think I would probably have spent a heart-stopping amount of money on books if I'd bought them all new, so while I've spent a bunch of money on them it's only a small bunch
I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.8 -

But things move on so perhaps she's thought about that now.
Your BHS jeans - worth keeping a look out on Ebay or Vinted, perhaps?
Books! Why didn't I think of books?! I have so many that if the house disappeared, I could build another using books I'm not currently reading. Of course, I'd then take a fancy to one at the bottom of a load-bearing wall. We found a couple of good second hand booksellers while we were in Scotland, I never thought to put those purchases on here. I got an Abbey Girls book from The Bookroom in Melrose, and DH got me an old cookery book from the same place. The owner was very interesting to talk to as well and really knew his stock. Then there was an Oxfam bookshop in the middle of Glasgow: I got a copy of La Peste, which was one of my A level course books and I'm going to see if my French is now up to actually reading it! DH got an art book there.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
