Suppliers are under direction from Ofgem to engage with consumers re the fitting of smart meters:

Rest assured, you will be contacted again. Remember, once your existing meters are deemed to be end-of-life, the supplier has a legal right to fit smart meters.
Can you please tell me the MTBF for gas and electricity meters.
I haven’t a clue - but you need to be careful what you consider to be a failure. A failure to connect to the DCC network might be down to physics (distance); a network failure; a failure of the comms hub (nothing to do with either smart meter), or an Adapter failure. In most cases, the meters will still record usage.

Does this mean the data wont be transmitted, a bit like me closing my eyes in front of my computer screen when calculating my cost from my spreadsheet.

Dunno about the MTBF, but the certified life is (or was) around 20-25 years for the old mechanical meters.
It is when the meters reach the end of their certified life that the suppliers are required to replace them.

Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

'I am sorry you are unhappy' strikes me as a textbook non-apology!

It's like saying 'I'm sorry if you were offended', not really an apology at all and just corporate-speak

and the email is obviously a response to someone complaining about being offered a smart meter installation (which probably counts as a marketing email so you can opt out).

that has nothing to do with the article which is about ihd showing estimates.

it also has nothing to do with being contacted when your meter reaches end of life and needs replacing (which will be with a smart meter)
Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Anne Lamott

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.

An unsolicited telephone call from the Phillipines, during my afternoon sleep, so it was after dark in the Phillipines which means the lights are on and it is using electricity and producing CO2 into the atmosphere. Physician heal thyself.
Pantomime season, oh yes it does.
