I hate having to barter for services. I use MyHeritage for which I pay about half of the advertised price. I always insist that autorenewal is disabled. At the end of each year, my membership lapses, and I get a flurry of emails offering increasing discounts over the days and weeks of the service's lapsing. At the one-month mark, I receive a telephone call from Israel and could then agree on an amicable price.Plimsol said:Just resurrecting this thread. I ended up cancelling my membership, as it was a luxury that I could no longer afford. None of the suggestions in previous posts work anymore but has anyone managed to get a discount on membership recently?
The other possibility is to maintain a GEDCOM file enabling one to move between providers.
I have to barter with the Daily Telegraph and Sky similarly. Many of these service organisations have higher prices for their "suckers".I have osteoarthritis in my hands so I speak my messages into a microphone using Dragon. Some people make "typos" but I often make "speakos".0 -
I cancelled my membership with Ancestry in December, was just offered £20 for a 4 month Worldwide subscription (I click on the links everytime I get an email, to let their algorithm know I'm still interested). Might have taken this offer, but too busy to use it over the summer months!

Recommended method:
- existing users should ensure any previous subscription has expired first!
- logout of Ancestry
- open a new incognito window
- (optional step for extra savings) logon to your preferred cashback site and click through to Ancestry from there
- use one of the links from above (UK or Worldwide)
- the chosen discounted subscription will be added to your basket
- existing users can then log back in to Ancestry to complete payment
Enjoy!
