Floss , Thank you. MIL has started with dementia now. Even when she was ok no one could advise or influence her. I think she has always felt safer having money in the bank. She did not like spending over a thousand a month on carers at all. She is in hospital at the moment.Anyway, enough of all that.25. Magazine

Hi all, I still have 10 pages to catch up on! I have taken a few nights "off' and am working on a project for myself - a patchwork lap blanket. I got the material over a year ago, cut the squares and strips last Easter and am hopeful it will be finished by tomorrow night. I have never made myself something before. I made the dc patchwork blankets last year. Lovely to see everyone is cracking on with the job in hand! @Mrs_Salad_Dodger you are much kinder about my dh lack of motivation for romance than I am! Thank you, Box 4 full up and now emptied - stuff will be taken to charity shop on Monday or Tuesday. Basic contents were some items of clothing, a handbag that really wasn't me, and some toys that haven't been played with for months. I have also got a toddler bed safety rail for the recycling centre as it is damaged and some clothes for the recycling there. Hoping to start on box 5 Monday. Got a blood test on Monday to see if the iron tablets are working OK.
@bit_by_bit I don't think your reasoning for clearing your in laws is selfish at all. You are hopefully securing your peace of mind by tackling the job now and everyone deserves to enjoy summer.
Right, will try and catch up on the other pages!2024 decluttering Campaign

What a day! I finally slept for a good 6 hours last night and woke by myself at 8, didn't even hear DH come in from work at 7am. Took a while to get going but emptied/reloaded dishwasher, washer, dryer and airer while waiting for the boys to finish their film then started on their room.
They were running up and down with all their stuff while I was sorting it into check again later/bin piles. We had just about emptied it in to living room when DH got up so he started dismantling the boys beds (2 of them in the box room, beds are built in) DS2 loft bed was rebuilt in the living room after altering furniture in there (that was fun!)
Their drawers were brought down and put under the bed and then everything else that had come down was stacked under it. Floor hoovered in the boys room and DS1 mattress put on the floor in there with his TV.
Then had to put all the table and things back in place in the living room, DS2 will have to climb over the table to get in to bed but hopefully it's just for a couple of nights
Just making pizzas for tea now.

I'm feeling a lot better at this end of the day than I was at the beginning. I've finished all of the grunt work for my accounts now - it's just a question of checking a couple of things and doing the calculation now - which I will do on Monday morning as I am being taken out for a belated birthday lunch tomorrow. I rewarded myself by watching 2 episodes of the Nick Knowles decluttering programme which spurred me on to do a little bit of decluttering myself.
Tasks- Grunt work completed for accounts
- ONS survey discarded - I couldn't believe quite how detailed / intrusive the questions were !
- New drawer pulls on bedside cabinet (I'd forgotten this one)
19. Funky fridge magnet - gift from a friend

62. Jug
63. Pack of wooden door knobs

Evening All
Found this on my decluttering journey today. Its called a Thunderball and reacts to sound and touch. It was a Christmas present many years ago, never been out of its box. I thought I'd get it out for a bit and then if I dont like it will give it to the charity shop. So far I'm liking, gives off a cosy glow.
Giving the paperwork a rest for today, did go throught the two holdalls though. One was mostly holiday things, travel pillow, flight socks, etc, the other one was miscellaneous, deluttered
4 computer/phone cables (work)
A watch box, like a jewellery box for watches and 6 watches inside, all work, just need batteries (CS)
7 new keyrings (CS)
Binned:
Broken ID card holder (Broken)
Half a box of confetti
Pair of heal grips (new but ancient)
Petrol can spout
Small charm
3 button badges
Marie Curie daffodils
5 ID badges from previous Jobs/conferences - destroyed and binned
Found a box of travel paraphernalia, leaflets, tickets to museums, etc. I will be having a serious cull of this box but I want to scrapbook some of it first to have a little book of memories, then I will discard what I don't need.
Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can

Well done everyone on great decluttering, especially when it’s difficult to get motivated or started.
In no particular order:
- put away stepladder (had been cluttering the hall since I repaired my kitchen blind the week after Christmas - long story)
- picked over the Christmas gift flowers, all but 3 chrysanthemums and some statice into garden waste bin, saved flowers put into clean & smaller vase
- used up 2 more packets and a tin from emergency food stores
- deleted a couple of dozen emails (didn’t count them all at the time)
- household rubbish to bin
- 2 loads of laundry done at launderette, shopped at sm while it was washing
- one hour’s ironing (= one airer load) done
- online grocery order done (Friday); received, checked, & put away today
- some slapdash vacuuming done, vacuum cleaner bag & filters changed
- stack of empty flowerpots removed from living room 🙂 now on kitchen table 🙁- worn out pair of jeans relocated to the Great Denim Mountain for cutting up & repurposing (currently making dog’s cushion covers from previous old jeans)“Tomorrow is another day for decluttering.”Decluttering 2023 🏅🏅🏅🏅⭐️⭐️

1. Write a daily To Do list - only 3 tasks
2. Commence ‘Operation Frog Tickling’ I have an acronym - I.R.I.S. being Identify, Research, Implement, Sign Off
3. Implement a new sleep/wake up regime - start going to bed earlier (target before 2:00 a.m.) get up earlier (target by 9:00 a.m.)
4. Deal with daily mail immediately
5. Don’t put it down, put it away
6. If I spot a mini task deal with it immediately e.g. refill olive oil pourer or salt cellar, stitch up a hole in a garment etc
7. Continue to keep kitchen clean & tidy - before going to bed
Saturday - one complete success - I finished cleaning & restocking the bathroom cabinet * + cleaned the sink & the top of DSis’s small movable cabinet. The cabinet is now tidy & clean 🙂
We have made a start in DH’s office 2 of the 3 - five shelf ‘shelving units’ have been gone through - like with like but not sorted the minutiae. Bag full of small recycling bits emptied into recycling wheelie bin + 3 boxes, 2 large ood manuals (2” & 1” thick 😬), ood book Total = 7 + various broken electricals, damaged covers & large bag of rubbish. So after 2 hours of work the total for Tip/wheelie bin = 15
We are currently having a 30 minute break to have a coffee & gird our loins for the next session. Another 45 minutes saw the 3rd shelf unit emptied. Fish’n’chips for dinner.
Back to office (3 completely empty shelves) for another 1.5 hr session - we have concentrated on emptying the two cardboard boxes that were making our bedroom a bit of an obstacle course & putting like with like in various receptacles on the shelves. Several of the shelves are still very untidy & need more work but there are 4 shelves that are neat & tidy 👏 As it is 9 p.m. we have called a halt 😔 More stuff recycled, binned or put in Tip Pile - broken iPod, 11 cardboard boxes, 2 broken & aged iPhones, DVD drive, broken GoPro knock-off, broken box file, 2 x DVD stacks, various cables, 6 CDs (3 in cases & 3 not), ancient obsolete digital camera, 2 camera cables, broken camera case, original & ancient broken iPad & broken Kindle cover = 32
(* 6 ood potions & creams, card & plastic packaging, broken electric toothbrush & 3 attachments/spare bits, broken razor & 4 useless bits, manky old hairbrush + 2 old toothbrushes relocated to garage - Whole count = 19 out of bathroom)
So start point of 88 + kitchen recycling & detritus + 7 + 15 + 32 + 19 = 163 🥳 There are quite a few bits for the CS but will count when items are cleaned & bagged 😉
weenancy, one medal 🏅 coming your way for the excellent motivational tool you are using to get your roommates to do at least some decluttering - money talks 😂 Excellent decluttering 👏 & glad to see you are mulling over ideas to delay using the washing machine 😉 What a shock re the gas prices - how can they justify doubling the prices 😖😔 Padlocks on all the gas appliances so that you are in full control of usage 🤔 Fingers crossed that the rain detours your location 🤞 to the ocean preferably 😉
Excellent paperwork decluttering Keiths_Mum 👏 You are definitely motoring along 🙂
Excellent decluttering ilovetea 👏 I would keep the chargers for maybe 3 months - you may come across the appliances in your continuing quest to declutter 🤞
What a lovely birthday EnergyShifter & even DS remembered 😉
Excellent paperwork decluttering & filing shabbychic12 👏
Decluttering when bored vulpix - you will put us all to shame 😉 Oh wow vulpix, what a turn up for the books - your Mum deciding that she does not want to go home but wants to stay in a care home 🤩Lots more work for you initially but less worrying in the long run 😊 Now to tackle MiL 😉😉
florianatwobob, nothing wrong with saying you are “I’m working my way through the bike club“ 😉makes you sound racy 😅 Finding tradesmen who have a shared interest is very practical - you know the same people so they are more likely to do a good job 😊 I did have to smile at the story of your 2 dogs who both liked to be hoovered 😊
Pleased to hear that your fingers are recovering charlies_tribe 🙂 Having to wait a month for a refund from mrT is not very good customer service especially as you had to chase them 😖 Maybe it is a new, crafty tactic to increase their profits but I hope not 😔 Excellent decluttering 👏
TC77, might have caused extra work at the time but it sounds like your dad knew his own mind 😉
I have been writing my posts in Notes, so it might be some time before my next post 😉
