Hi
Thank you so much for the understanding and support with our Mothers situation. It has been possibly an 8 year slog with MIL and 6 months with my Mum. Day out yesterday interrupted by various calls about my Mum. Same today. Not that it is resented,it is worrying and upsetting as many of you already know.Didn’t buy the curtains in the end. I have bought a very cute oak cupboard/bookcase for a tenner. One of my hobbies is furniture restoration.Builders coming Wednesday.I am feeling weary so will take up residence in the tlc carriage, possibly for some time! I will read along and enjoy all your successes.Vx:19 -
Visited the library, which we are lucky is open here on a Sunday, and returned the book I bought from their fundraising table last week. I thought it was going to be a comedy from the summary on the back, it turned out to be very dark and not something I thought I could hand on the NT property where I volunteer! I didn't have my glasses when I bought the book. If I'd read the first 2 paragraphs I'd have left it behind. I also left them a book I bought for holiday reading from a local charity shop. OH read it while on holiday, I've ground to a halt. I tend to read at nighttime if I can't sleep and the plot line was too complicated to remember what was going on as fortunately I'm not awake too often in the night at the moment. I need to find another book for beside the bed.Got home and hung out the washing, it's been a pretty good drying day here today. I made a start on decluttering the garden. It's been very neglected over the past 4-5 months, and what the builders haven't trashed is seriously scruffy. Cut back the raspberries, cleared around the lilac tree where bulbs should be coming up soon, and cleared the dead bits off perenials. There's a lot more to do, but I've made a start. OH washed the car which was filthy, but we've only recently got a tap back at the front of the house.I've bagged up the towels ready for the RSPCA and aiming to get to the charity shop with the clean rags and some vases tomorrow morning.Make £2025 in 2025

Excellent decluttering Keiths_Mum 👏 and well done on dealing with an important frog 👏 I empathised with your tale of a ‘no weekend cashier’ bank as I had exactly the same situation when my old branch closed & I was trying to find a new branch. The particular branch I went into wouldn’t accept my cheques (I refuse to use the machines), however after a bit of pleading the cheques were taken into the back office, my paying in book was stamped & I was given photocopies of the banked cheques 🙂Fortunately I found a branch with a proper cashier 🥳 I am wondering if it was the same bank - an anagram of SCBH 😉 I must admit to a pang of jealousy reading about your call up for Jury Service as I never even got called 🙁 You would have thought that there would be other cases pending or even that they would put you on a list for a future call up.
I think the reason there were no other cases is because of the type of court it is, a high court, a court of appeal, they seem to have a lot of cases involving celebrities such as the recent Wagatha Christie case. Anyway they told me as they had cancelled I would not get called up again for at least another 2 years. 7 years later I did get called again but for a local criminal court, it was a murder case that lasted 2 weeks an was a bit grim. I didn't like it at all, sadly I am still young enough to get called again, but hopefully not.
Today sorting through the box of papers i came across a receipt for a night out on my Dad's 60th birthday, it was a sporting venue and we didn't tell him about it until be got there. He had a really lovely night, I remember asking him what it felt like to be 60, did he feel old and he said no, he didn't feel any different to when he was 40, sadly he passed away only 4 yrs later. I did know I would come across things like this even in my own stuff, that's why I've been putting it off I think.
Anyway back to the decluttering, I took the Christmas decorations down and put them away, a bit late I know but I only put them up on Chirstmas Eve. I shredded 64 pieces of paperwork and recycled 34 pieces, I have almost finished the first box. I binned 2 pairs if socks and 1 pair of underwear and 1 broken kitchen utensil.
I did sort out the coat cupboard, but I only managed to declutter 2 jackets, 1 coat and a suit, which will go to the clothes bank tomorrow. I still have 5 jackets and 6 coats, I plan to wear them all to see why I don't wear them more often before i cull them some more.
It's really interesting and insightful reading everyone else's posts, there are some great tips, there seem to be a lot of people doing electronic decluttering, something I might have to think about soon.
Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can

Evening allI hope everyone has had a fabulous Weekend. I've managed to declutter several drawers. I finally finished my dress cut out in September. I found a load of old first class stamps I need to send off for new ones. One coat and scarf going to the charity shop tomorrow. One joint of beef decluttered from the freezer and into Sunday dinner 😋. I'm back on nights tomorrow so the decluttering will slow down a bit. I need to go though my fabric and gift or sell stuff I won't use. That's my next job.16

Still going with the flow here. Whilst using some digital devices, it was hard to find what I wanted and so I had a quick purge. Probably need to go through DD's clothes again and some toys at some point soon. The former will be the start of trying to empty the doom cupboard. It'll be a long haul as it also contains too much packaging, gift bags and bathroom supplies that will need to be worked through. Just looking for progress there, however small it may be will be enough for me; I just need to know it is going in the right direction.Still tidying 23 things a day and the house is very subtly getting tidier. Things that have been hanging around for ages are slowly being tidied away. It feels more efficient to do it in bits as I hate tidying and lose interest very quickly (and then procrastinate more). This way I have a set target and then stop, which takes very little time.70-76 - digital notes deleted77-85 - digital photos deleted86-147 - eBay watch list items deleted2025 decluttering: 3,925🌟🥉🌟💐🏅🏅🌟🥈🏅🌟🏅💐💎🌟🏅🏆🌟🏅

Back from a weekend away to the family in Portsmouth after dropping off parents in law to Southampton for their cruise. Nearly had a hiccough as MiL thought she had forgotton the paperwork folder despite confirming she had it when we left.
I am amazed at the progress and movement of the thread,
Thank goodness DS in Portsmouth would have helped.
Visiting both sisters was a reminder of the stuff I had behind me. DS3 trying to get her children to all the extra curricular activities while trying to keep up with a nearly full time job, pets, house stuff etc.
DS2, a registered hoarder had dome well in prepping bags of clothing to go. Not having seen the flat for a long time I can see some improvement but as she was sorting though a bag of my Nieces stuff she kept hanging onto things because she liked them. I have done this myself over lots of DD things. DD and niece must have been so frustrated with us.
On the way to Portsmouth I dropped a bag of books at a services and I gave a bag of assorted wools to Smaller dd or DS3.
Back home more chaos from Manchester family including a phone call from the police today. An addict they knew not to let in had stolen BiL phone and wallet and had tried to get money from the card machine. Glad I wasn't home for that.
So DH and I have two weeks to sort out Parents in Law house so it is clean, repaired and ready for their return.

I've managed to get through my stash of toiletries and test out some of the products I had bought years ago to try - so I have some products to give to my curly haired friend - 4 hair gels, 1 conditioner, and one shampoo bar. I also binned some very old products that had dried up - 2 mascaras, out of date eye gel, and an eyeliner pen. Two cans of soup I didn't like and a tin of sweets have gone to neighbour. OH decluttered his t shirt drawer and 8 t-shirts went to charity clothes bank. Going to continue with clothes decluttering and pop some items on vinted - a dress, a few tops, a selection of handbags - this week."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."
