@TC77 - I completely sympathise with you. It’s very difficult making the decisions under pressure too, which is why it is easier to postpone them. I have found that I don’t want to be looking after lots of things or wading around in belongings. The contents of my shed show me what will happen if things aren’t looked after. Everything is dirty and some things have woodworm, or rust etc. Now, I feel that if I cannot make a really positive choice that I definitely want that item in my life and that I will be using it then it can go. Better a new home for quality items than converting them to landfill through neglect and the vermin moving in.It is actually very freeing and something that I wish I had understood when I was being loaded up with stuff. With boomerang children there also always seems to be stuff left behind -they don’t like making the decisions either! I am still plodding through our daughter’s old room, in the background of every day life and dealing with my own decluttering. Do I consult her at every turn (my current strategy) or just get rid because she basically does not use any of it in her life now? And hasn’t valued it enough to want it in her own home. Don’t be shamed by the photos, as that sort of thing happens to many of us at some point! I hope you can reclaim your beautiful rooms with those gorgeous fireplaces. Just take it one bag or box at a time and you will get there.15

1. Write a daily To Do list - only 3 tasks to include MMiM - do this before I go to bed
2. Commence ‘Operation Frog Tickling’ I have an acronym - I.R.I.S. being Identify, Research, Implement, Sign Off
3. Implement a new sleep/wake up regime - start going to bed earlier (target before 2:00 a.m.) get up earlier (target by 9:00 a.m.)
4. Deal with ‘Urgent’ daily mail immediately & the rest at the weekend
5. Don’t put it down, put it away
6. If I spot a mini task deal with it immediately e.g. refill olive oil pourer or salt cellar, stitch up a hole in a garment etc
7. Continue to keep kitchen clean & tidy - before going to bed
Friday has been a lovely sunny & hot day. Having gone back to bed I woke up 13.15 😱 The sum total of my endeavours today was dealing with my mail, completing the puzzles & reading my magazine & helping DH make dinner. We used one of our HF recipe cards & made sausage linguine. Just as tasty sourcing our own ingredients 😋 Wudupa. DH has had a busy day - he put the concrete powder down on the rest of the patio, brushed in & watered; watered the seedlings & potato plants; then started on the garage tidying 🥳 including finding yet another ruined metal bird feeder which has been added to a new pile for the next Tip run 😔 He has made a pretty good start tidying things away & sweeping up 🙂One bit of good news - DSis has agreed to let her bed (brought over from France) go to the Tip 🥳 DH has already arranged a council pick up for Wednesday 7th June 😉
1235 - 1246 Kitchen recycling, drinks cans, booklet, magazine, 6 cardboard boxes, cardboard packaging, paper packaging- recycled
1247 - 1249 Kitchen detritus, plastic packaging, bird feeder - binned
Saturday I woke up to bright sunshine at 9:30, got up & put on a dressing gown. DH was already up as he had been woken by the recycling bin men emptying the bin - just 2 days late 😉 His niece G continues to recover at home - had an afternoon out with her daughter, son-in-law & grandson. The photos show how well she is looking 👏 😮💨 DH is now in the garage doing a bit more tidying. Straight into cheerleading 😉
Excellent decluttering QueenJess 👏 Reading about your DH’s attitude to the garage & it’s contents, I am surprised that you didn’t throttle him 🤣 As the freezer is yours, may I safely assume that the contents are also yours 😉 In that case, I don’t think you need to feed him 🤣 It sounds like he doesn’t know where to start 😔 Do you have any decluttering books that you could leave lying around in the hope that he might pick them up, read & digest & start a major declutter 🤨 I thank my lucky stars that the garage is my DH’s domain & that every now & again he gets so fed up with the mess that he tidies & rearranges things 👏 As long as I have safe access to the fridge/freezer I try to ignore the chaos 😉Hopefully the work situation will continue to ease now that your boss seems aware that you are looking for pastures new 🤞
Excellent decluttering of DD2’s closet Siebrie 👏 Hopefully your husband is correct & you will receive most of the funds raised to continue your downstairs renovations 🤞
QueenJess, now that is what I call a breakthrough 😊 You have inspired your DH to take an interest 👏but have left the ball firmly in his hands 😉 It seems he has reached his limit of stuff in ‘his garage’ 🥳
charlies_tribe, DD2 is on a roll 😊 Hopefully there are lots of beautifully baked goodies in your future 😉 Re your garden - I think it is called ‘re-wilding’ bringing eco diversity to your garden 🙂 Shame about having to replace the washer, an expense you could have done without 😔 Good luck catching up with the washing 🍀 Shame you are not weighing your decluttering as washing machines are notoriously heavy 🤣 I wish you a speedy resolution to your moth problem 🤞 Excellent decluttering 👏& very pleased to hear that your local scrap man was on the ball 😉
vulpix, not sure if it was just one squirrel or if they took turns 😉 Hopefully your back will continue to get better & you can make use of the good weather to ‘carefully’ play Tetris in your shed 🤞 Good luck to MrV 🍀 Great decluttering, by the way 👏
Florenceem, so sorry to hear that both DD & MrF have tested positive for Covid 😔 Hopefully you are now testing negative 🤞 Good news about the local bin men suspending their strike 👏 You will have so much space in the garage when the bags of shredding are gone 🥳
Feeling a bit guilty that I am not helping DH, so will post this, get dressed & give him a hand…..or maybe even two 😂

Continuing to move things around to accommodate OH. So, so glad to have empty spaces in order to do this. Looking around you would think no decluttering had ever taken place as there is still “stuff” everywhere. But it definitely has otherwise there wouldn’t be empty shelves, cupboards and loft.
OH has arranged a storage container which we hope will only be needed for 3-6 months for a few of the larger items.
More papers have gone. I will need to go through some things again but for now just getting rid of the obvious rubbish and rearranging things to meet the now 3 week deadline.Decluttering Awards: 🏅🏅15 -
Hi all, yesterday was spent with my friend and by the time I got home after 5 I was worn out by the heat, plus it can be very tiring sitting eating, chatting and drinking coffee
.
Today I had an appointment at the bank which was very helpful and has gone a way to settling my mind a little. The only thing was it was at a branch in the city centre so it is the second day running I have had to travel into town and cope with the large number of people and the heat. It is always hotter in town so I have got home hot and bothered and am just having some lunch and a cold drink. Also I thought the footy was today but it is tomorrow so I hadn't planned to do much else today apart from following the last day of the season on the radio so I will get a few things sorted today when I have cooled down.
I have already emptied the bathroom bin and the bedroom recycling but I really need to do something in the conservatory so I can clear the back room doorway of the lawn mower, I have already stubbed my toes on it about a zillion times and it is lucky not to have been chucked into the garden
@Mrs SD yes it was very galling to have dug it out only for it not to be needed. As for OHs clothes the problem is OHs weight is fluctuating caused by various ailments and meds and most of them are good clothes that will be worn again at some point. I think I will try to organise them in a better way so they don't impact too much on the rest of the stuff in there. It all needs a good sorting.
Hopefully I will be back later with some more done
707 bathroom bin emptied
708 bedroom recycling emptied
Take care everyone

Just having a sit down after lunch and a shower/hair wash. Weighed myself - have decluttered 3lbs - so Covid had it's good point.

@Florenceem
well frankly I'm glad you're not well enough to help at the sale today and your colleague is away as well. It will show the rest of the gang how hard you both work!! I'm sure they already appreciate you but it's always surprising when people discover how much organising these things take.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards.
