2023 DECLUTTERING CAMPAIGN Mrs SD

Hi all, well I managed to get about a quarter of my list done so the rest will roll over to tomorrow. The top of the fridge freezer has been cleared but only 1 thing was chucked, a large cardboard box that I use to keep packets of biscuits in, stops them rolling off and they are out of eye line so not as tempting. However the box was empty and I have tins I can use when I get some biscuits so into the recycling. Everything else except my zizzer for soup has been put away, just not sure where to put it as I use it a lot so currently it is sitting on top of the micrwave, will ponder this. There were a couple of other things that came with the fridge freezer that I am not sure what to do with, not sure exactly what they are apart from the ice cube tray. A large plastic tray thing and a wire rack thing that may be supposed to hold bottles in the fridge. I will consult with OH tomorrow.
I spent quite a bit of time sending and answering text messages on a union thing. I am going to count this as 1 as it was a bit time consuming and I had to look things up.
I went in to ln for a coffee and a catch up as we have both been busy this week out and about so haven't seen each other. Then I listened to the footie on the radio as I have decluttered the telly service as I decided it was too expensive and if I really want to watch it there are about a zillion sports pubs I could go to and watch it for the price of a an orange juice. After tea I just watched the telly
When my sister and I cleared my Mum's house my sister just basically did take mostly things of some value, some old towels were taken by my niece for her then hubby who was a plumber and always needed things like that. A few bits belonging to my Dad that Mum had kept like his signet ring were given to my nephew and most of the furniture was given to family and friends who needed it.
When OH was sorting out after mil died basically the house belonged to OH having bought it from the parents and the contents were left to OH but OH did ask all the family including nieces and nephews if they wanted anything, which they mostly got. There is always 1 person who causes bother and in this case it was eldest sister who wanted fathers watch and medals. The watch had been sent to a grandson in Australia by mother and father had never claimed his medals as he said he didn't want them. Mum had sorted all her jewelry before she died, giving it out herself. The only thing left was the ornaments and pictures on the walls. OH had everything lined up along the worktop and table so they rolled a dice to establish the order and chose 1 item each in turn until all that was left was what nobody was really bothered with. They then rolled the dice again to see who got that. OH won and even though 2 thirds has gone the display cabinet is still full. The eldest sister did continue to cause a bit of bother by continually asking for things until OH got fed up with it and 2nd sister had to intervene, as OH doesn't talk to eldest sister, and remind eldest sister that it was OHs house and it had to stop. I think eldest sister wanted to do a search of the house as father had dementia and had taken to hiding money around the house but it had all been found and banked by mother.
@Brie that sounds like a jam sieve,

I'm claiming another 10 points. The house to be auctioned was a massive no - no. Apparently it was in the newspapers last year as the garden disappeared down a massive sink hole during one of the storms and is now part of the river. There was nothing beyond the back door and the property had a local council notice declaring it unsafe for human habitation. Repairs needed were estimated at £40,000. I half expected this as the low starting price reflected the previous offer price of £45,000.
So points for not spending money, points for delegating a chore to Beloved's family. I used the opportunity to get in some of the things I've been trying to tell them about not just going off the photos. Some of the houses they're rejecting because 'you can see they're damp from the photos' might still be okay if the work needed is not too onerous and only viewing would determine if the damage is an easy fix like a damaged or missing drainpipe - not too much to replace and the damage would clear up gradually after that. If the kitchen is very horrible but functional, they'll have to learn to live with that until they can save up and get what they want (without consulting her father who wanted red marble worktops when they fancied replacing their kitchen - the kitchen was fairly new and not damaged in any way, they just fancied a change).
In their price range they are going to have to learn to be less fussy, they need to start looking at houses (identify all possibles, then blitz view them in a weekend - if they are all duds we can rest for a while until more come onto the market) practice fault finding and working out the cost of fixing things. I kept it short and sweet, didn't turn it into a lecture but ticked some things off the 'I need to have a serious talk with you both' checklist.
Best of all, I've massively reduced my 'to do' list for the week (though will add the scanning or whatever onto my new things to learn list). I might be able to get DS3 to put my printer back into working order this week - I bought the new inks but the need to fill the tanks (tall person job) and then sync my laptop to it. 530/202314 -

Glad that you are enjoying your break Mrs SD. I need to count what goes out rather than how many places that I tidy other wise I would keep stuff and just rearrange it! 🤣. Not much left the house which is why I only counted it as 1. It works for me. 🤷♀️. I came down and opened a couple of cupboards this morning and can really see the difference. Getting rid of all of our clutter definitely makes me feel good. Back to it proper this week now that I have recovered from the familys stay.

So I got to the chaz yesterday and gave them 3 tops and a pair of (slightly weird) trousers in a print I would never wear. Also a jacket I never wore even when it fitted me. Not a huge amount but there's a small space on the spare room wardrobe rail now.Have also fished the jars out of the bin and they've gone to another freecycler who did collect them. It's a lot of hassle though, don't think I'll bother again. Also regretfully binned my collection of empty food containers (butter tubs, cream pots, etc) as I just have too many. I will regret this at seed sowing time.
I need to go through my desk and offload surplus pens and felt tips while they still work. Does anyone know if charity shops take these?Magnolia Stellata13 -
Good morning All.
It’s a lovely sunny day here, so looks like a garden tidy sort of day.
Which raises the question: what to do with my collection of plastic flowerpots? When I buy new plants they mostly seem to come in little plastic pots which I carefully wash and dry and sort by size and store in the garage*, or the greenhouse, or wherever there’s space. It seems a shame just to bin them, and Justin pops up to say “they’ll be sooo useful for seedlings, or potting on”. I’ve more than sufficient for that purpose, and can’t possibly keep them all, and although my wilder thoughts include making Bill & Bens I think I’ve enough pots to make a whole tribe of Flowerpot Men, plus all the Little Weeds need sorting out first. 🌻What does everyone else do with them?*The legs of old tights, tied at each end, are excellent for keeping spiders and other creepy crawlies out of stacks of clean flowerpots.
Have a good holiday Mrs S_D and well done on getting to bed on target!“Tomorrow is another day for decluttering.”Decluttering 2023 🏅🏅🏅🏅⭐️⭐️

Blue_doggy, I give my plant pots to Bit by bit who passes them on at her allotments I think. I do know some garden centres recycle them and in the past I have given them away on free sites.
We had an impromptu day in Nottingham yesterday to visit MIL. I saw something I have never seen before. At least 10 magpies on a roof. There could have been more but they didn't keep still to count them! According to the rhyme 10 magpies is a surprise you would not want to miss.
The town where I live is currently cut in half because of repairs to the railway bridge. No trains running but there is a replacement bus service which has a sign on the front which says " choo choo I'm a train."
Mr SD is smashing his walking training. I should take a leaf from his book. How is he doing with visiting all the tube stations? It should be an eye spy book. I used to love them as a kid. Years ago I made my own eye spy book for animal fleeces. remember the cats, puppies, wolf, dolphins? yes I am as mad as a hatter.lol.
Today I want to press on with making the curtains but there are some drawers in the TV stand that will be getting my attention.
Have a lovely weekend. Vx
