There are a number of comments above from people who clearly don't understand the algorithm and have made little attempt to do so !It's NOT 'cheating' to use the 'In Day Adjustment' to maximise benefits ! Without doing that, few would receive any worthwhile payments so many would just ignore the scheme as not being worth the effort of taking part ; I certainly wouldn't bother rearranging meal times and rushing around the house to switch larger consuming items on and off for the sake of a few pence 'reward'. The grid stands to incur huge charges for starting up coal & gas plants without help from the public so paying a few pounds to cooperative consumers is well worthwhile.NE Derbyshire.4kWp S Facing 17.5deg slope (dormer roof).24kWh of Pylontech batteries with Lux controller BEV : Hyundai Ioniq50

The octopus FAQ page actually says people should use more in the period before:
What should you do to avoid this?
Try to shift more of your peak energy to before the Session – e.g. try to run the washing and cook earlier rather than later – and avoid switching everything off hours ahead of time.
They also have this ...
Couldn’t I just game the system by using much more power before the Session?
We can’t blame you for wondering! But the cost of using much more energy every day over Winter just so you can earn more during a few hours of Saving Sessions just wouldn’t add up favourably in the end.
I dont understand how they work out my savings though, for example my average usage in the 2 weeks before the 23rd 5-6pm was 1.059kwh... in the 3 hour IDA period on the 23rd i used 16.7kwh... my saving equated to 5.44kwh (i think), as i was running on battery during the saving session time so usage should have been zero.
Can anyone work it out??

Of course it would cost a lot to "use much more energy every day over Winter" but that isn't what was asked. Using much more energy during the 3 hour 'adjustment period" would cost far less than the 'reward' that probably results.NE Derbyshire.4kWp S Facing 17.5deg slope (dormer roof).24kWh of Pylontech batteries with Lux controller BEV : Hyundai Ioniq50
