Probably another 20 odd today half of which will be profit - based on most recent results though - it looks as if they may not be removing previous saving days from the on the day adjustment period calculation.  I think this was session 5 or 6 out of a max of 10?
At least 12 sessions i think...
    Octopus say

“Saving Sessions will run from 1st November 2022 all the way to 31st March 2023. We know there'll be at least 12 Sessions, but there could be many more. “

I’ve taken part in 9 so far.
I’ve done 9 with octopus too. 7 were test events and 2 live events.
PPI success. Banding success. Double Dip PCN cancelled! South facing solar (Midlands) and battery. Savings Session supporter (is it worth it now!?)

Another session 9AM tomorrow so time to get that load on between 5 and 8 :)
Interestingly I overslept, so only had 15 minutes of the IDA to boost demand. Managed to get the washing machine and dishwasher on, but little else. I then made an extra effort to reduce phantom usage during the save hour and managed to net £1.67. Given Loop say you need to reduce by at least 40% to gain anything, I’m quite impressed how much phantom usage I must have switched off.

Left me wondering whether it would be harmful to turn the fridge/ freezer off for an hour a day generally.

So after Hugo have taken their 20%, in the 4 saving sessions I took part in in Jan I have a gross £140 but net is probably only a little over half of that.
    I think....

I did did turn my A rated freezer off for an hour and the temperature on the display rose from -19 to -12.

I got a bit of a shock today when I looked at my points tally on Octopus which was updated late yesterday (30th) and saw it had gone up but only by 500 - that’s 62.5p.

Edit: I just checked again and those 500 points have now disappeared. Has anyone else had this?

Edit 2: that’s the old A rating btw, not the new one.

  • Those 500 points aren't the Saving Sessions reward point are they - 5 x 100 point bonus. They appear on the OctoPoints page but not on the Dashboard.

Sad I know but I have downloaded my smart meter data (from data.n3rgy.com) and tried to recreate the saving session calcs and am getting a different answer.

Baseline for in day adjustment period and saving period I believe should be the previous 10 working days excluding any saving session days.

Calculated saving is then (on day adjustment period use less previous 10 day average adjustment period use) plus (previous 10 day saving session usage less on the day saving session usage)

Has anyone else checked the calcs?  Do we know if it is the company who are doing the payout who do the calcs or is it done centrally and simply communicated?
    I think....
  • So if I’ve actually interpreted what people have seen the formula to calculate the baseline is

average consumpion over the 10 previous ‘qualifying’ days + total consumpion over the 3 hours IDA /3

so for someone with a storage battery and normally drawing very little from the grid the calculation is:

total consumption in the 3 IDA hours /3

This only applies to 1 hour long saving sessions as I haven’t worked out how it would work for longer ones

This would only be if you normally have zero consumption during the 3 hour in day adjustment period, otherwise you would need to subtract the average (per hour ie divided by 3) consumption over the previous 10 days during the IDA period.

    Noted, thanks

How would that work for 1.5 or 2 hours sessions?
