  • Hey rtrw,

Many thanks, i havent spent on my credit card for a good few months so should be ok! My girlfriend will kill me if i do it again!:rotfl:

Might have to be a change of plan for the house. We may look at renting after xmas but not sure yet. If we do we will still be able to save for a house but it might be a bit further off.

Might ring my bank thursday and warn them that im going to be doing a couple of big payments to places, dont want them stopping them!

  • Hi EAMD

I hope you don't mind me dropping - first time I've seen your diary. Very quickly had a nose at first page - and now you're progress! Seems brilliant!! Well done btw!!

Just have to ask - as it looks like you had your LBM a year ago - what has kept you going? Has keeping the diary on here been one of your main supports??

Just a newbie after some advice (not that i've fallen off the wagon - but i don't want to!!)

  • Hi Emms,

Course i dont mind, everyone is welcome on here!

My diary has given me quite alot of motivation but also having something to aim for (getting a place with my girlfriend) helped alot, if i hadnt had that then i would have fallen off quite a few times.

Making a budget and sticking to it also makes a big difference and also allowing yourself small treats, for most of us it is a long road and if you dont let yourself have the odd treat your morelikely to fall off.

Also sounds very silly but learning to say to your mates that you cant afford to do things helped me.

Im also lucky in that i still live at home so have minimal outgoings!

Hope that helps and if you have any other questiosn fell free to give me a shout!

  • Hi EAMD

Thanks for that - really appreciate it! Wish I'd found this place a year ago - but personally I was in a different place too, so I might not have embraced it like I have now.

That's been the hard bit for me - more than anything - making family understand. I know I'm going to have to tell my dad soon, I need to explain but also want him to know I'm not telling him to ask him to help me out - I'm telling him so he can understand why I can't spend a lot on presents/ or visiting him (he lives abroad).

Any tips on how you handle those type of people - who just 'don't get it'?

  • Personally i've never told my parents about my debt, i didnt want them to be disappointed in me :o

You could just blame it on a big bill for your car, the increased cost of living etc and that you need to be careful

  • Thanks EAMD.

As for dad - I have to tell him. Its that side of the family who struggles to get it, if I don't then I'm going to continue attempting to live up to expectations I just can't meet.

Thanks for advice. My problem is I'm single and a homeowner - yet they still think I've got money growing on trees. So the above is actually true..

Thinking of showing them my SOA!!
