Fingers crossed exchange has happened or is imminent. House buying/selling is so stressful. My daughter moved earlier this year and everything seemed to happen all at once due to chain issues. So they exchanged Monday and completed Wednesday. Hey all - thank you so much for all the good vibes, sadly on this occasion the MSE magic wasn't quite able to do it's thing as currently we are still not exchanged. It sounds like our buyer had underestimated how fast her deposit funds would make their way across from wherever they are sitting currently, into her account to transfer them to her solicitor, as we were told on Friday morning that it would be "early this week". At time of writing we've heard nothing, and her solicitor now seems to have gone AWOL as well although we think that might just be him working remotely and his form not being totally aware of that. Sigh. They do say it's one of the most stressful things you can do, I know, but I'd sooner not be having this level of uncertainty introduced right now! Fingers crossed that we get at least some news later today...
MSE Stuff:
- shopping done for the week in between Lil's and T's - total spend just under £40 (I confess that included some treaty stuff on Saturday!)
- My car insurance hit the CC on Friday (can't recall if I'd declared that previously?) Money is there to transfer to clear that straight off when it goes from pending to confirmed anyway.
- Home contents insurance for the flat is sorted, and paid. I've actually gone with monthly payments this time on that for the first time in a lot of years as it was available at no added cost, and makes far more sense for cashflow right now. Got it for £40 less than our renewal quote in the end, and for far better cover too - not though I'm hoping that will be to relevant, but still!
- No other spending over the weekend, although as we do seem to have spent most of it shovelling our possessions in to boxes I guess that isn't too surprising!
- Meals are planned out for the week and are still ploughing through stuff from the freezer so far as possible.
Moving stuff:
- lots more boxes packed although it still feels as though there is an awful lot to do, but we also now feel a bit hesitant to try to do too much more until we know where we stand on dates. If we can't get the 1st as a moving date, then that will then end up meaning we are pushed right in to October as our sellers removals have no other September availability! If that is the outcome, then we certainly don't want too much more packed up!
- had to take the plunge and pay a £200 deposit against the removal costs on Friday to secure the 1st as a date - so if that does slip we'll now end up losing that as well which would be annoying. Not much choice in the circumstances though.
- some paperwork ploughed through last night to sort out things like instruction books and details on items that are staying in the flat. Those are now separated out ready to leave in the flat for the buyer.
- Annoyingly the buyer doesn't want the FridgeFreezer - we've tried a few other folk we thought might be able to make use of it but right now it looks like our best bet will be to try to find a local charity to take it off our hands.
I think the viewpoint we currently have on more packing is to just start really identifying the things that we can perfectly well live without for a few weeks if needed without leaving the place feeling completely spartan - there is a balance to be struck there and it's just going to come down to eyeing up individual items in each room and then making a decision. It's quite frustrating, not least as MrEH is away over the weekend and so ideally we could do with powering through a lot more of it in the next few evenings.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

How frustrating for you - I think the AWOL solicitor is worse than the lack of exchange, probably. Hope you hear very soon.Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

How very annoying! Hopefully you'll hear any minute that things are getting sorted. Is there anyone else at the solicitors office you could track down to find out if solicitor is away?

Oh ..... that is such an annoying pile of poo, @EssexHebridean - the process is stressful enough without funds suddenly not being ready, solicitors going a bit off-grid, etc. Hope it is all sorted out asap.
