Must download user and configuration manuals for one of those some time.

But a really silly question - re E10 etc with 3 off peak period style tariffs

if single wired - and only 2 timers - does that mean cannot charge off of off-peak feed in all 3 periods - overnight, afternoon and evening ?
My kWh rates would now be the same regardless - but that was not true of my old heatwise installation and I believe a few other legacy radio tariffs (but if like Elnur boost element ratings are generally lower than main).

And based on my neighbours experience - on E7 - suspect - night and afternoon - or afternoon and eve - more than enough.

If dual wired - would it be safe to assume ignores those settings - they will accept any / all three charging periods - if needed, and automatically stop boost heater from 24hr live - when switched feed active?

    Edit

Apologies guys - just downloaded a manual for one such heater - a series G from the Dimplex website

It states 4 programmable time zones for charging for single wiring - around Fig9b for that mode.
And these are shipped to default to 00 -> 00 i.e. 24 hours operation.

    And a nice warning
"A 24h charge window in a single supply installation will cause the heater to charge continuously, including times when off-peak electricity is not available, resulting in larger bills."

  • “Larger bills” might be one of the better understatements I’ve seen! 😆

Some early thoughts........ I am now living in a flat of two halves. The warm half and the cold half.
The Quantums really are good. There is heat in them all day and it's warm. They are in the front of the flat (lounge and kitchen diner) and it's as warm as the house I was in with gas CH. They are also great because you don't have to do anything.
The old box of bricks in the hall and bed one do the job but there's nothing left in them by the evening (I'm running them on a 3 input). Also made the schoolboy error of adjusting the wrong dial when I went to bed resulting in a hot bedroom and heat lost.
The Gledhill pulsacoil works well and I've now turned it off. I'm only using hot water for hand washing and washing up. I'll run it a couple of nights a week.
As the property was empty for months it was very cold so I'm letting everything settle before I start monitoring consumption.

The old style box of bricks ones - can’t recall what make you said they are, but the numbering system for inputs sounds like Creda? Do they have a second dial which controls output also? If so, we’re found that with the older style heaters that needs to be fully closed if you want the heat to last. My Dimplex XLN in the living room has been running at input somewhere between 2/3rds of max > max for the last little while, and with the output fully closed has still been properly hot right through to the evening. Older heaters may not be quite that good as the insulation gets less effective over time so more early heat leakage.

Have you investigated whether you actually need heating in the bedroom or whether you can heat the room sufficiently by way of leaving doors open? We’ve always found that using the NSH in our main bedroom just makes it far too hot overnight - again that one is a Dimplex XLN albeit a far smaller one - so heat leakage has an effect.  We now leave the door to the hallway open and rely on transferred heat from there.

Glad you are loving your Quantums too - bear in mind that while you don’t have to do anything with them, a little bit of tweaking every few days based on upcoming weather forecasts and your own lifestyle patterns can make them even more economical in use!

They are 23 year old credas. I don't mind my bedroom cold, I'm finding it actually quite nice but I'm going to be working in the smallest bedroom so I need to do something that brings that up higher than the 17 it sits at. There's a panel heater in there but I'm trying to maximize the NSH use. I think I'll crank up the creda in the hallway.turn the one in my room down and leave all doors open. I want to try to maximise what the Quantums are doing as I think I'll save energy by working them harder than using both credas. The Quantums are 125s. Hall NSH is a trs12aw, bedroom is a 118aw. I have a floorplan with them marked, I'll find it. You have been super helpful btw so thanks so much. Without the input I'd not have had a clue.

Good call to move that heater - NSH’s give you the most benefit when they are on walls fully internal to your own property is my understanding. The temperature of the walls themselves above the heaters in use definitely back this up, too. (We’re ground floor so our heating already benefits the flat above, in particular - I’ll be damned if I’m willing to donate more than I need to to those either side as well! 😆)

My personal experience also points to the fact that your plan to maximise use of the Quantums is likely going to pay off - the very fact that they are so controllable helps, and their relative lack of heat leakage is also a significant advantage.  (I try to make sure that mine isn’t programmed to start kicking out heat much before the end of the off peak period as until that point the small amount of heat leakage it does have is sufficient to keep the centre of the flat up up a fair temperature.

looking at your floor plan - and assuming you still have that layout - don’t underestimate the amount of difference keeping both the front doors closed has. We’d originally considered having our inner front door removed - but decided against when we realised the temperature difference it made.

I’m glad that I’ve been able to help - it’s why we’re here, after all! ☺️

That little porch is a godsend. The communal area is unheated and it's a great buffer. Also stops the cat going on an expedition! 🤣

Oh my god - are you me? Our area like that was immediately nicknamed the “airlock” on arrival as we used it to ensure that cat stayed where she needed to be - ie, indoors! So close the inner door before opening the outer, and vice-versa! We no longer have the cat, sadly, but still refer to it as the airlock now! 🤣🤣
