  • You can get a little pack that fits in your glove box that will jump start your car -  I got one about 10 years ago when my previous car was constantly in need of it. It means you're less reliant on someone being free to supply a second car!

Before your tyre showed as under - was it really quite cold & did you drive for a while quite fast?
Unless I have a real tyre problem (once only) one of mine does this if it has been cold & then I hit the 50mph road.  Even kwik fit couldn't find an excuse to do anything with a tyre because they had no clue which it could possibly be.  One back of beyond garage (daughter of owner) actually laughed & said stop worrying it happens all the time.  It wouldn't stop me from getting the tyres checked though but I am far more likely to DIY than go in panic mode.  Doesn't stop it from being a major irritation & the last thing we need is to be on the side of the road with a flat tyre.

Thanks BM. Am at KF. They say tyre issue due to lack of seal with alloy wheel rather than puncture so going to clean it. £27.50. It's one they fitted previously. They say my back tyre should be fine until March. They say battery relatively new and just need to drive more!! Relief overall. I can fund that from my unplanned pot.

I have to go in work tomorrow so glad I sorted it today. Will still ask DD's Bf if he knows how to use charger device in the garage and if it's the same kind of thing as what Merlin suggested or whether I should get that as well.

Phone battery nearly dead. Forgot to charge portable battery after last use. Doh!

  • If the house you viewed previously was making your heart sing you'd be considering "how to get it" rather than "what it's worth" is my feeling - you're still sounding very pragmatic about it - and although practicalities are important, so is how the property makes you feel. I suspect you still have some searching to do to find "your house".

Thanks EH - You may be right. I am a pragmatist though and I'm trying not to let my heart rule my head. No house ticks all the boxes. The only house that 'sang' to me was the valley one - and although I could go after that it does cut me off from my already limited support network and introduces a lot of inconvenience and I'm no longer sure it's the right decision. I'm not convinced that houses will sing to me in the price range I'm looking... and having got invested in the valley's one and that then being taken off the market - I'm reluctant to get as invested again.

While waiting at KF I started working out what I'd spend on the house next to the woodland and that wasn't cheap either - so definitely need to be mindful of how much work each property brings. It mostly has carpets - and they are different in every room - and I only like the main bedroom one on the photos. The kitchen flooring looks okay and that carries through to a lounge diner - but I don't like the tiled looking flooring in the conservatory (too much brown). I also don't like the flooring in the pictures in the upstairs bathrooms. I'd want to get most rooms re-painted. Only one wall seems to have wallpaper so could be worse - the tile backsplash in the kitchen is not remotely my choice of colours. It does however have blinds in the conservatory.

In contrast the one I offered on yesterday is already very neutral and has great flooring downstairs. It also has granite worktops in the kitchen which I've wanted for years. I'm not keen on the beige carpets upstairs but at least it has flow. It lacked conservatory blinds however and they admitted that could cost £5K to resolve.

The battery was dead in the end - it died again while I was there and they couldn't get it to restart. They wiped the alloy wheel cleaning charge due to my wait and just charged me for the battery. I got them to price match so cost me £182. They have cleared all the cars random error codes so hopefully that will improve things.

EH - I think it would be better to say - nature and light sing to me. So I like a house with good views of nature and lots of light. I'm lucky enough to live in a very spacious home currently but that is difficult to replicate - and perhaps I no longer need to... It's the latter debate I'm still having with myself along with what's a reasonable budget. Together with - I can borrow more - but should I?

My instinct is to go for a house with a big garden - but I have an above average size garden at the moment and am struggling to maintain it - so I'm trying to be more realistic.

  • I'm glad you are being realistic about costing any changes you would want to make on the houses.
I am the same as you with light. Light makes me sing!
