Hi savingholmes, could you call a local insulation company to come and do a survey? We weren't eligible for the free service, but we used a local company recommended by our friends. Its made such a difference - apparently a quarter of heat is lost through the roof.
I'd also recommend an internal letter box flap or the brushes that you are thinking of. They are pretty easy to fit."Think of many things, do one"

I treated myself to a post "catcher" which is also designed to stop any drafts. I'll let you know if I think it works, because I know if the door curtain isn't across properly I can feel a draft.2

Thanks Lucielle, Dancing, Sandy, BM, Orangetoes, EH and Beanie
I'm very happy to report my arm is okay again today - I think I must have had a trapped nerve or something. I'm now debating what to do about my appointment. I may get them to look at my back issue.
I'm still thrilled about the back pay.
The good stuff- I've been paid
- I have been a good MSE'r and have cleared both my active CCs in full. That means my dental work is fully paid for too so I should start 2023 with a clean slate.
- £375 went to AVCs which means I more than met my goal for sending money to pensions this year.
- I sent £400 to savings.
- DS is coming home a day earlier than he originally said so happy about that.
- I got some YS veg that I've made into a bit of a soup.
- I gave a friend last night a bottle light and she was delighted (it cost me nothing in today's money as I made it years ago and already had the lights, spare batteries and I reused a gift bag). We had a really good time - and spent less than £7 at a very nice country pub.
- I got two loads of washing done.
- The cleaner has been and made my house wonderful again - and put clean bedding on my bed!
- I overspent in Mr A after my counselling appointment - obviously haven't learned the right lesson yet!! I bought a bright yellow kettle for £16 in the sale as mine broke. I also bought some extra gifts that I probably shouldn't have and some nice treat food. I have the £ just want to be more in control of spending. I've got a delivery booked for next week as I tend to do better with those.
- It's been freezing again here today - really hard frost so had the heating on a lot - despite wearing at least 3 layers - partly to make it nicer for the cleaner and at DD's request.
- DD's train is later than normal tomorrow - which is good from a lie in perspective - but messes up her day and it will be packed.
- I've defrosted some lamb so plan to cook that.
- I need to start wrapping pressies.
- I'm going to use my debit card more instead of CCs and see where that leads me. Hopefully I'll end the pay month in a better place.
- I'm hoping to be able to send another £125 to savings but have held £50 in reserve in case I spend more over Xmas. I have 3 regular savers set to £25 each currently.

@savingholmes congratulations on your year...do you feel (if this isn't too personal a question) that you've broken free and are living life on your own terms? That's the message I'm getting and am so thrilled for you. Of course, life is always work in progress but that helps to make it interesting, no? Onwards and upwards love Humdinger xx4
