  • Can i just say im gobsmacked at the amount of posts - when i put this up this morning it was not with much thought more a moment of bordem !

I will keep you updated. im not at this time happy to post the right move link, infact i will think twice before posting on a public forum again with a personal matter.
    Many thanks.

I dont think you did anything wrong, and I think you had a lot of thoughtful replies so hopefully you'll see it in that light tomorrow.

I can see how it could have been a bit surprising to have so many people take an interest.
  • I have taken on board everything that has been said, i appreciate all advice but i still wont be changing my mind. I will keep you all updated and hope for a better offer in new year. x
  • I think generali made a post a couple of weeks ago which kinda summed up the current situation, can't quite remember how he worded it, something along the lines of a stand off between buyers and sellers, hopefully he will be along to remind me of what he said, i remember it being a totally accurate reflection of the current situation. Good luck in the new year, wouldn't surprise me if you get a higher offer.

It is amazing how many views and replies this thread has had.

    :T

And even though it has got a bit heated at times, none of it has been particularly rude or offensive.

I think we should keep it going to report all accepted offers as a % of asking price.

Maybe change the title slightly and make it a sticky even?

THANKYOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats all i was asking - it was a very light hearted post that i started.

    Light hearted?
If I was selling a property I'd be a bit concerned that people even think of that kind of reduction for a first offer. 10% under after being on for four days is very cheeky but it was almost 20% under. You can dismiss it as a one off but your OP said this was happening to others around you as well. What on Earth is light hearted about that?

i never said people in my area - or offers as low.
it was just meant to get people telling me there stories

Stories of how buyers are offering way less than they used to would send shivers down my back.

    Seriously, good luck to you.

Chill jyonda - it'sonly an offer, not a demand. If she doesn't like it, she can tell them to go away and get lost!

But presumably they figured that if you don't ask, you don't get. Nothing wrong with that.

And as others have pointed out, in due course this may become the price, if prices fall. Of course (crystal ball not being present), it may not.

But can't see any reason we we can't have a light-hearted look at the sorts of prices offered - it's of general interest.

Also, if some properties are on at very 'hopeful' prices - 'speculative' as one buyer described it above, then 20% off might just take them back to a reasonable level in line with other local prices, let alone price falls.

Out of interest, why the shivers? Lower house prices would benefit all except speculators and those who've taken on unsustainable mortgage debt... and I trust you don't fall into either camp.

Pretty good idea, except that it has to be a new thread. Yes there have been some quite insulting things said, though you're pretty good at chucking insults yourself, I wouldn't expect you to notice. :p

Someone did try it the other week and had everyone posting up stuff like the address for nethouse prices instead of anecdotals. Maybe you could start the new thread and if it works, we'll ask for it to be a sticky. I think it would be interesting.
