EON Next

Together we can make energy better.

(Link removed by Forum Team)
A couple of days ago I received the following email from eon next, inviting me to take part in their demand flexibility service that eon next are calling energy shift events.i think to be invited you need a smart meter.

Hi x

We’ve all been watching energy make headlines recently, from increasing prices to pressure on supply, and we can take steps to change that together.

This winter it’s important that we conserve electricity, where we can, to help the National Grid meet demand across the country. Because when demand is higher than supply, energy prices get higher. You can help by reducing your energy consumption during peak times, so the National Grid can provide a reliable and potentially cheaper electricity supply throughout the upcoming colder months.

If we all make small energy shifts to our consumption we can make energy better together. That’s why we’re teaming up with the National Grid on a series of Energy Shift events throughout winter. And you can take part.

For each Energy Shift event, you’ll have the option to reduce your energy consumption during peak times. In return, you could earn around £100 over winter if you meet your energy reduction target.*

How it works
We’ll notify you the day before each event.
You confirm you are taking part
You use less energy during the event
We’ll credit your account if you meet or beat the target

*£100 is based on the average user hitting their turn down targets, over 29 events over the winter period between Nov and March, based on an assumed incentive payment of between £2 -£4kWh.

Hi mrsg1990 ... Interesting and interested. The link takes me through to an E.ON Next page providing the scheme details and faqs and a sign-up/interested button, it has your account number (presumably) but with no account details.

Although I would appear to qualify I presume I would need an invitation e-mail to get to the same page with my account number.

... I have found out why I've not had the invitation from the E.ON Next community forums.

The smart reader has to be set for half-hour readings and by default it is set for daily ... you can change it here ...

    1. Login to your online account.

    2. Scroll down and click on Profile

    3. Scroll down to Smartmeter Data Preferences and click on Edit.

    4. Choose Half-Hourly

Apparently it takes about a month before 'Energy Shift' becomes available.

I just did the first session with Octopus and I only had the meters fitted 10 days before so you should be able to join in less than the month.

Thanks t0rt0ise ... I have looked into it a little bit more with E.ON Next.

Here is the main thread on the community forums ...

    https://community.eonnext.com/threads/5866-Energy-Shift-Announcement-on-National-Grid-Demand-Flexibility-Service

It would appear that they need a month's base data of half-hour reads and marketing preferences on (I presume e-mail and SMS).

The communication about the scheme appears poor (I had marketing e-mail communications on), no info on the website main pages, no knowledge when I asked an agent a couple of weeks ago. Feedback from participators suggests that the implementation is bad with many missing out when they thought they'd met an 'event's criteria.

Also t0rt0ise it would seem each supplier has its own scheme and rules, Octopuses have a reputation for being highly intelligent.

"Thanks again for signing up to our Energy Shift scheme, which starts soon.

We’re piloting our first event with a small number of our customers, and we’d love for you to take part. For this event, you’ll have the option to reduce your energy consumption for one hour to help reduce demand on the National Grid at peak times.
If we all make small energy shifts to our consumption we can make energy better together.

The next Energy Shift event is scheduled for Tuesday 15/11/2022 from 5:00PM to 6:00PM. "

As above I did the first one last Tuesday
This was based around cutting my electricity usage, the target was a 40% reduction between 5pm and  6 pm.
My typical usage was 0.44kwh and they asked me to reduce that by 0.18kwh
I ended up reducing my energy usage by 77% and received £1.09 credited to my account.

One presumes only inviting people with 30 minute data already switched  on is part of the slow start. I guess at some point they will invite everyone with smart meters to turn on 30.minute data and join. We typically don't use that much power between 4 and 7. And I don't plan to sit in the dark. But they might be good days to use the slow cooker. I happen to know too in my local area if you wanted eon to fit smart meters the earliest appointments are middle of January but this no doubt varies by location.

We reduced our usage by 60% and got £3.52.  The main difference from usual was that the cooker wasn't on.

Hi Marypw, That is great! I'm doing my first one today between 5.30 and 6.30. My target is 40% reduction.

As well as the oven, did you switch other bits off? Our usage is pretty low at that time anyway, so trying to think of things to turn off! :) I'm thinking the freezers will happily survive for an hour.
