So far today (17:50) I've used 36.15 kWh of gas and my heating has been on since 07:45, though approx 10 kWh of that is for hot water and cooking so 26 kWh for heating.

The heating will probably use another 8 kWh by 23:30 when the heating goes off for the night.

Blimey. If you are going through 45kWh of gas a day now, what do you expect you will be using in say January and February.

Last winter we used most gas in December and January at around 1200kWh per month. So averaging around 40kWh a day!

This month has been mild so we really have not used a lot and have averaged 10kWh a day.

We’ve exceeded 45kWh a day on 11 days since smart meters installed 28 September. On a few of those days we exceeded 75kWh.
I started typing some of the reasons for this but decided against it.
Suffice to say, different people, of different ages, with different lifestyles, having different health conditions, living in different types of houses, in different parts of the country, will have different needs to use energy.

If your old boiler was ideal why did you change it?
Apologies if this a joke ('tis the Internet) but they mean Ideal the boiler brand.

I used 36kWh yesterday, that's with the thermostat set 18c for an hour in the morning then 16c all day then until 17:30 then 19c until 21:00

I live in the Northwest and our outdoor temperatures yesterday were between 6-10c

I live in the NorthEast and experienced a similarly cold wet miserable day to yourself (similar outdoor temps).  Thermostat at 17.5c in the morning, kicked in again circa 3.30pm.  Heating did not kick in after evening meal although we were under a heated throw but the temp was 18c until going to bed.  So slightly lower boiler temps and slightly lower thermostat settings led to a usage of 24kWh for the day.  Similar weather today but slightly higher usage at 29kWh but that has included a bath.  Temp in lounge currently 17.5c so might get away with no further bursts of heating.  Overnight will probably see the lounge temperature dip to 15c.n  Looking at the likely temperatures forecast for where I live leads me to think that the remainder of the month will see me using between 20-30 kWh/day wheras average usage/day up to this point in November has been 17.5kWh/day
