Another how much gas do you use. I have my heating on all day.

No heating on yet as it's not cold. 1910 end tenement, DG of unknown age. I have gone round the skirting and window surrounds to fill gaps, put draught excluders round the front door and hung a curtain in the vestibule, no other curtains in my home; can I class wallpaper as insulation? I think you have that calculation wrong somewhere.JohnSwift10 said:I have my heating on all day from 08:00 to 23:30 with the thermostat set at 21 deg C and live in a 1991 built semi detached house in central Scotland with 300 mm loft insulation, new upvc double glazed windows and cavity wall insulation.
The heating is a worcester bosch combi with 8 radiators.
At present I am using between 33 kWh and 45 kWh of gas, 11 kWh of that approx for cooking and hot water.
What are people using who only put their heating on for an hour or 2 in the morning and 4 hours in the evening?
We also have a 20 year old Worcester Bosch 28 CDi and we have 11 rads. Being a bit anal, I've watched the gas meter whilst the CH is on and in my house in 20 minutes we use approx 1m3 of gas which is about 10.5 kwh. if you have your heating on for say 15 hours a day that's 45m3 used of gas in one day which is about 470 kwh per day used which works out I think at £48 a day on capped rates. I'd double check your bill.
We received an estimated gas bill this year based on last year's 27,000 kwh use of well over £3,000 and about 24,000 kwh of that was between Oct and March. This year we're using approx 30-35m3 each month (350 kwh) between Oct/March and we've switched to our log burner to avoid using the gas CH. As the unit rate has trebled from last year, we are saving a lot of money.0 -

here is Sunday's gas usage for all you doubters1 -
Without units - not very useful. Could either be 2.956 kWh, 2.956 m3 (so about 32.5 kWh - I guess that's what it is) or 295.6 ft3 (95 kWh - but highly unlikely as you have 30min readings).
Unless someone has exactly the same house as you, in exactly the same place, with exactly the same boiler and radiators (including their condition, efficiency, sludging, "dustiness"), the same furniture in the same position, the same thermostat and location, and the same occupation habits - the comparison you are trying to make doesn't really mean anything.
If you're trying to get an answer to the old question "is it better to leave my heating on all day or only turn it on while I'm in" - that question has asked and discussed many times on many threads.
If not - I can't see what question you're actually trying to get an answer to other than "do different people use different amounts of gas", to which the answer is "of course they do".
What is the question you are really asking here? Maybe then we can make some more useful comments.2 -

No, but what Cautiously has done is given us a start-up figure that we can use to compare with the OP's data above. Scrolling down the OP's list we see that the 08.00 figure (after a long list of zeros) is 0.398. This suggests that either his start-up is a thirtieth of Cautiously's figure (if the OP is correctly quoting kWh) or a third if he is actually reading m3. With a well-insulated house and a newish boiler, a 3x difference would be good, a 30x difference might border on the scarcely credible.QrizB said:Cautiouslyoptimistic said:

(All assuming, of course) that the 08.00 figure was the CH kicking-in and not the OP frying his Sunday morning Lorne sausage for breakfast!)0 -
We had a new Glowworm combi boiler installed in September, and it's our first time of having a thermostat; so I'm watching our usage with interest. Semi-detached housei n Manchester: we previously had an Ideal boiler, no thermostat, heating on in bursts across the day; now we have the Glowworm, heating active [i.e. on, but not necessarily firing] from 6:30am to midnight with the thermo set at 21.5deg. We also have a gas cooker.
Since the boiler was installed, our average usage is 1.36 m3 per day, so around 15.5 kWh.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

If your old boiler was ideal why did you change it?0

Modern "new build" (2019) detached house with an Ideal 35 Combi boiler in the East Midlands.
Average gas consumption for this month is 10kWh per day including hot water and some cooking. (Gas hob with electric ovens)
The heating isn't kicking in that much as it is still relatively mild for the time of year. We don't leave it turned up all day as we are out at work. It comes on for an hour in the morning before we get up and then it comes on half an hour before we get home for four hours. Thermostat set to 16 degrees overnight, 17 degrees during the day when we are not in and 20 degrees when we are in.
The house retains the heat really well so it rarely kicks in during the day even on the coldest of days.0 -
