Not with Octopus but am included on an energy saving session so I presume this DFS calculation works the same no matter what supplier?

So as an example tomorrow at 9-10am our last 10 weekdays 9-10am average is 2.24kwh

If we move our hot water heating (ASHP)/dishwasher/washing machine/tumble dryer load and the garage gym heaters on for two seperate workouts from to 5-8am we will use approx 9kwh over that 3 hour period.

    Does that mean our baseline is 2.24kwh + 3kwh/2 = 2.62kwh?

Very first time we have had an invite so any help on this appreciated.
Yes, the calculation is the same. The in-day adjustment depends on the average increase per half hour period from 5-8 vs the prior 10 weekdays. If you use an extra 9 kWh evenly spread over those 6 half hours, then you'll gain a ~3 unit saving without any reduction in the session.

Usually use between 0.05 and 0.15kWh in that hour so cutting that will be a challenge!

Previous saving sessions I've taken full advantage of the in-day adjustment window but I think my life is too short to be up at 5am burning electricity!
  • Car charging schedule changed to 5 till 8, splendid!

Set the dishwasher to start in 9 hours, battery set to fill from 5am too. No washing needs doing, was sunny today so I got it done.

If I'm up before 8am I'll put the oven on with door open, give the heating a boost and save a bit of gas.

This game is too easy to play when you have solar/battery and I think many Octopus customers have learned the rules.

My smart meter has for last 10 days not sent data to Octopus, my Bright App. is also showing an issue. I have opted in but wont do any 'messing around' as I run a big risk of this not working for me.  So a cautionary note, check you smart meter is updating via the DCC before switching on all that load between 5am and 8am !

Well I've signed up for what it's worth. Typical usage for the slot is about 100-150 Wh as far as I can see, although yesterday we were exporting from 9 to 11:30 and imported a big fat 0.

I don't want to use electricity for the sake of it. I care more about my carbon footprint than a few pence off my bill, but I suppose the washing machine has been bugging me about a drum clean due to all the cool water washes it's been doing lately.

If it's stuff you would have done anyway, just usually later in the day/week/month, then it's not really a problem.

Dishwashers benefit from a good boil up to clean them now and again too.  ;)

Or stuff you wouldn't have done because too expensive (like treating yourself to a nice oven cooked meal!) So when its saver session you get the money spent back and a bonus on top  ;)

  • Off out in the snow to reprogramme my car charging time. And reset the dishwasher delay.

These savings sessions are somewhat pot luck for us as to whether they land on a good day for savings relative to our usual routine.

    Only just spotted this.
Been saving up my washing but it’s too cold to get out of bed now, sort washing, load machine, unplug Tapo from current place & set timer so it’s done and there’s time for an additional spin all before 8.
I’ll give the game a miss this time and stay tucked up with my hot water bottle 😊
Best of luck to all the early risers.
