Fiddlesticks!
I've just looked at my £76.50 per week and realised ..
£10 - weekly Christmas Fund 2008.
£9 - "Retirement Fund" (a leetle investment dabbling)
£25 - Mobile Phone package (don't ask - it looks dire but it's just fine)
£2.50 - Haircut (£10 per month)
leaves me with a delightful £30 for the remainder of the week.
Ohhh, this is SO going to be fun!! :rotfl:
I shalln't be rushing to wear my "dry clean only" suits ... Pfft

Evening peeps
All this talk of electricity got me thinking way (way) back to when I was a poor student.
We used to boil one kettle full of water ( the old whistling type pmsl) & fill flasks......the grey matter seemed to work better on copious amounts of coffee(& our Mums supplied us with that!)
I was just wondering which way would be cheapest with todays modern electric kettles.
Filled to the top & boiled once?? (...decant into flasks)
or only boil a cupfull, half a dozen times ??

I have charted the useage from Christmas Eve to New Year's day and now have the final answers to my own questions. Look at the differences in numbers of units of power used:
Day 1 (25th Dec) 63 night, 25 day (extra cooking etc)
Day 2 (26th Dec) 65 night, 21 day (freaked out, turned down temp on a night heater)
Day 3 (27th Dec) 57 night, 20 day (day still too high, switched OFF a convector heater, rearranged house and now have my computer in the living room.
Day 4 (28th Dec) 55 night, 15 day (Wey hey!! A saving beginning to show!)
Day 5 (29th Dec) 56 night, 14 day (Better, and the WM was on last night! Now stopped using groundfloor other than for cooking & eating)
Day 6 (30th Dec) 57 night, 8 day (TD was on last night and I didn't cook much today)
Day 7 (31st Dec) 56 night, 10 day (We were all up and about or watching TV until about 3am LOL)
Have now started a chart for 2008 and aim to get electricity useage down even further by keeping all doors shut, making more draught excluders, sorting out curtains for the silly long window that drops between 2 floors and getting to grips with the storage heater settings. Plus, still thinking of forking out on getting the chimneys inspected - could be worth it over the long termAnyway, I have HALVED my electricity useage in the space of one week just by checking the meter and adjusting stuff about the house - now looking at getting a better rate per unit.
I'm also on E7, but I know my bill is going to be big this time as I have been using the tumble dryer LOADS during the day!
I am gonna chart mine, and see what I can do.... our rented house doesn't have double glazing, so the curtains are sut a lot of the time, meaning the light is on. But I can make draught excluders etc
Thanks

I had a bagged hoover, but as the opening was quite wide, I just used to empty the bag into the bin and use the same one until it ripped. Must admit tho, I wouldn't be without my Dyson cuz of the hairy dog!

Just realised that Asda deliver here so might give this a go too. I like Lidl's but always buy stuff I don't need there. Could send son for staples that are really cheap from there though and do the rest by delivery - no temptation that way.Lightbulb moment 28th December 2007

Help wanted plz!!!
My hoover packed in to day..and i dunno how im going to afford one living off £30 a week? any ideas?
There's also gumtree that you could try, there are lots of things for sale on there or some people give things away. Or look at if it's more economical to rent least that way if it breaks they repair it. Or if you live anywhere near north manchester we had 4 on the last count!
My last one was a bagged one, bags were about £5 for 3 I think, unless you get a 'henry' they work better without the bag :cool:0 -
