    Evening peeps

All this talk of electricity got me thinking way (way) back to when I was a poor student.
We used to boil one kettle full of water ( the old whistling type pmsl) & fill flasks......the grey matter seemed to work better on copious amounts of coffee :D (& our Mums supplied us with that!)

I was just wondering which way would be cheapest with todays modern electric kettles.
Filled to the top & boiled once?? (...decant into flasks)
or only boil a cupfull, half a dozen times ??

    :D

    xx

Nice to see you here and I agree with the above. During winter, we try to remember to have a flask filled at any given time because of the power cuts. I also invested some time ago in camping kettle and camping pans that can be used on an open fire when there are power cuts. Let's face it - no leccie here means no heat, no hot water, nothing. My old house had hot water heated by the fire, which was great through the winter, except coal's getting so expensive. I would LOVE a woodburner but investing any sort of money into a rented house is crazy. I will try to remember to check the meter next time I boil the kettle. I don't think there's any difference in cost per cup boiled but may be wrong.

Of course, I could always get a really big flask and boil the water durng cheap rate then store it through the day! :rotfl:

See? It was simple to solve. Now, if you were a rich chick, you would have gone and bought the new hoover already. Soon, you could be a semi-rich chick... that's one that finds out best cost of the new hoover, banks the money in a savings account and then fixes the old one :D I did that with my washing machine! I now know how to replace the belt without breaking a nail and I really did save the £25 call out charge!! :rotfl: :rotfl:

Well done Mumzy - it shows that sometimes necessity is the mother of invention :D

Might be worth keeping one eye on your local freecycle for another if your vacuum is getting elderly - you never know, someone may be emigrating / divorcing / downsizing and may need to get rid of a perfectly good one fast to someone who needs it. My local freecycle group had someone offer a static caravan once - sited with six months paid up fees! I missed it tho angry-smiley-030.gif

Just goes to show, sometimes we are too quick to buy a new one rather than the old make do and mend :rotfl:

...and you could always offer your neighbours a vacuum repair service! action-smiley-033.gif

If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got.

Is anyone monitoring their gas usage?? We've been using 2 units a day for the last week, wasn't sure if this is good or not. The Lecky varies between 14 and 30 units a day ( the 30 was today but I have done three loads of washing). I've started to do a tour of the house to make sure things are turned off....starting to sound more like my mum with the 'turn the light out' shout!!

Today was a no spend day for me!!...yay!! but not for my OH ...boo..., had an argument as he wanted to buy a bottle of wine as its the last day of our hols....he won and has spent £6.50 so £6.50 off my total then....I think I might end up not including his spending in this if I cannot get him on board!!!

Glad everyones doing well and well done Mumzy for fixing your hoover!!
