I found that with starting the comping challenge last year. Overall it calms down after a few months and then there are spurts of busy activity, especially if it gets a mention in the email tips.

I am sure vegetarian is cheaper. DD and I have been eating for £90 a month over the past two years (although I am expecting this to go up with rising food prices and am budgeting £120 this year as I want to have friends round for meals more). We are vegetarian. Over the past few days I have had a stream of people round for meals and found the meat prices add so much to the shopping bill. All visitors will have to eat vegetarian with us :p

To my absolute shame I have realised that even with the growing list of people I still have the highest budget. How can I call myself Prudent :o:confused:

Just off to get the calculator to look more closely at the figures and will post a re -done budget with an aim of making a lower total.

    Ok here goes:

    Essentials not included:

    Council tax £113
Commuting costs £100 (this is an average as some months lower and some months higher)
    DD commuting £70
DD music exams, educations essentials £30
Savings plan for dd for college £25 (costs round dd are agreed with her dad and he helps pay them, so not strictly all my personal outgoings)
    Union £12

    Subtotal: £350  Annual £4200

    Challenge outgoings:

    Internet £9.99
Gas/Elec £62 (this needs to go up as not meeting current bills or better still I need to reduce it).
    BT £11
    TV £11
    Insurances £40
    Food £120
    Petrol (perosnal not commuting) £30
    Mobile £10
    Cats £25
    Car tax £10
    Haircuts £10
    18866 £2
    Clothes £30
    Car maintenence £25

Other outgoings like household items/ going out/ postage £50

I am hoping to win holidays as last year, but if not will look at cheapest options.

    Subtotal: £446 x 12 =£5352 . Therefore I am going to drop £500 to £5500.:T

NYK - please can you update, thanks :)

Just wondering how you all monitor your outgoings?:confused:

I do mine by taking the figure in the bank account at the start of the month (which I do payday to payday), add incomings and then subtract the amount left at the end of the month. Any surplus I then transfer to savings :)

Looking at my post above my average monthly figure (essential plus inessential) shouldn't exceed £796). I will post the amount every month when I total it and work out the average and grand total at the end of the year :)

    Any comments welcome :)
  • I started having a casual mooch around the house and I won't need any shower gel, bleach, loo roll, toilet cleaner, general cleaning stuff (like Stardrops) washing up liquid or toothpaste until at least the beginning of February. I have a huge box full of various toiletries so I'm going to try to use as much of that stuff as possible.

OH's food contribution will be coming 3 Jan, so I'm hoping for a positive first few weeks.

I need an interview suit for a job I'm going for so I'd better buy it today or tomorrow!!!!

I was sat thinking last night about it and imagining myself checking my bank balance each day (which I already do) and updating my 'amount spent'.

I'm suddenly looking forward to the challenge!!!
