I'd like to have a go at this but still live at home so its not in the same league as the rest of you really. I do spend a lot on petrol and general upkeep of car but want to cut my frivolous spends (like taking tea bags to work instead of buying a cup of tea cos Im lazy!) so I might just have a little challenge of my own!

I've just spent a good portion of my morning advising friends that I'm pulling back from my 'bar / restaurant / club' social circle and have instead made dates to spend a day together at the weekend etc.
It's been very ... positive, I think is the word.
So many people are in dire financial dificulty presently (and I can't currently call mine dire - just undesirable comparative to my own wishes) and I think me calling up and saying "Hey, I'm going to have to step back a while here because my budget just doesn't allow for it." almost seems to be giving one or two of them 'permission' to do the same.
Feeling good today!
Oh, I must go adjust my signature - what fun! :T
Rafiki, have nights out/in round at your house and another week at another friends house, that way you still have a social life and will save money.Back on MSE again! to take control of my finances and not let it control me. :T May grocery challenge £41.96/1400 -
I read through the thread yesterday, then went to money and to my suprise we actually live on less than £4000 anyway!!!!!!!!!!!!
After we have paid our bills House keeping, OH's pocket money and fuel for the car come to £152.50 about £1900 a year, OH saves for odd treats out of his PM, the occasional meal out (2 for £10) and fuel towards our holidays which around £500 less if I can manage it. This year is an exception we are going to see friends in the south of France, I have £699 of the £800 I think we will need.........
Jan 2009, hopefully, we are going to stay in Florida again with friends, but want to spend 5 nights in New York.......already doing research to find the cheapest place to stay in a reasonable position, NY is expensive....but using quidco I can save some money and also get cash back.
It is possible to live on £4000 a year after the major bills have been paid, our total income for the year is just over £12,000.Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.0 -
Could I join please?
Family of four, one wage and child benefits but lots of debt.
In a bad week I seem to be able to scrape through on a low amount of money, when I have a good week I seem to waste it and not sure how, so this would be quite a good challenge to do.
Thank youPayment a day challenge: £236.69
Jan Shopping Challenge: £202.09/£250
Frugal Living Challenge: £534.64/150000 -

I live with my Mum, so I am still at home, I am in the challenge, I know what you mean about not in the same league - hats off to people with Childrenbut I am still going to do it, I am trying VERY hard not to spend anything unless I absolutely have to and try to keep below my limit.

Me too.... I thought I lived on more, but once I deducted all the treats and hols I do live under. So my goal is 3500
However, I thought I should mention that tax credits are available for working folk and couples have a joint income of under around 16000. Checkout the entiitled to site if it applies to your circumstances.0 -
My internet is with AOL. I got this price in a promotion they were running. They are usually up for negiotation, so it might be worth phoning and asking.
I only pay line rental with BT. I have free evening and weekend call with Primus and the day time calls/ calls to mobiles I use 18866 for and this works out at an average of £2 per month. Phone gets a lot of use as I have a teenager :rotfl: .
thanks for telling me I have never used those things for the phone bill. do you stay with bt connection and number ?. any links that I can read for more info. Thanks T0 -
:T :T :T Don't take any notice of all the people who moan and get angry...that's their problem. I am delighted with this challenge and intend to enjoy it. So thanks for starting it. It will make me sort out my mobile contract and internet charges straight away.Wombling £457.410

not sure if this has been asked ,if you spend over £4000 in a year how can you cut it down, ie yes can cut food - doing Jan food challenge, but the rest is bills and car expenses plus petrol.
please no funny answers with turning the lights off and walking. I understand that but we live nearly in the dark now and carnt walk to walk cos I start at 4am and the childrens school is 3 miles each way ( yes they have walked it in the summer months as a one off but that means 12 miles a day for me and would take total of 4 hours)
any ideas welcomed. Thanks T0
