redglass good idea but the cats perform a useful function by acting as living electric blankets and, at a pinch, they can feed themselves
The Laptop has recovered :j
A very very nice man at PC World spoke soothingly to it's little box, muttered a few incantationsand lo! it began to work again :T
He said it was probably a build up of static electricity and it had discharged itself on the journey there so now a happy Laptop sits on the table
However, DH's car died on the way homeCompletely deceased at a vital moment as I was hurtling down the slip road onto the motorway
Managed to nurse it back to life and get it home but it died again in the middle of a busy junction and again on a hump back bridge.
It is now at home but DH is traumatised
Now, we have Recovery but only to the nearest garage which is no good as they are very expensive and we usually take it to a friend's garage who does us a deal but he is 35 miles away and nearest (bad) garage is 6 miles away.
So, a cunning plan has been hatched
DH's sister will tow poorly car closer to friend's garage and then said garage will recover poorly car and make it better.
So what's next0 -
Janey, you are having a time of it! Glad to see the cats didn't get it though
Not much to report here at mo, no snow unfortunately but v cold, the heating is even on and I still can't feel my feet  Had a lovely weekend while OH was away, spoilt myself by only doing things I wanted to do instead of ought to do and didn't spend any moneyLovely to have him back now - he's out mountain biking and I've been curled up on the sofa all day with a great book (by jove, I think I may just have cracked this 'accepting my illness' malarky
). Off to Brighton tomorrow for 5 days with the MiL :eek::eek:

Arrived home this afternoon and have just spent the past hour catching up with posts, spending diary, signature updates etc and can confirm that we have no snow here, although there have been a few flurries that didn't lie.
With exactly one week left of the first quarter of this challenge, I'm suspecting several of you will be glad to see the back of this month for various reasons! I certainly haven't caught up with the spending and am well over the first £1000 for this quarter. I also down very much if I'll be back within budget over the next month or two because April brings the next of the quarterly bills! Nowever, we'll battle on in style and look forward to the arrival of summertime.
I managed to fit in a trip to Asda and spent £10.80 mainly of 'whoops' labelled items :rotfl: I had intended on a £10 shop but can blame the garden and home growing bug! Asda had pots of herbs reduced, so I bought one of chives for 50p and one of mint further reduced to 35p. I have used these pots to start off herb gardens in my past 4 houses but have decided that this time, they will be transplanted into large pots so I can take them with me on the next move! For now, they are on the window sill next to my garlic chive & pepper seeds and tomoato seedlings, which are about an inch high now.
Total spend for the weekend, including Asda, was £30.80 and I'm going to try NOT to spend anything else (apart from milk) between now and April.
In summary - Hope broken down car is fixed soon, hope cats escaped intact, hope broken dentures are fixable, congratulations on the bargain breadmaker, MarkyMary the fact it's a 'she' who mentioned what they did says more about them than you, my kids could cough and splutter until they made themselves sick, loved all the photos of snowy views and snowy characters, hope the 'oldies' enjoyed their Easter dinner, good luck keeping the tenner safe in your purse, hope the toothache goes soon and WELCOME BACK, FIZ! :T Apologies if I have missed anyone or anything, it wasn't intentional, it'll just be my bad memory
Signature updated, off to catch up with several other threads now, too and then I'll find the photo of the majic wishmaker so everyone can wish for a great April before it sets off on it's travels again. (Don't ask, it's a long story).
I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.
Frugal living challenge - living on little in 2025 while frugalling towards retirement.0 -
Hi everyone,
Sorry to hear about all your mishaps Janey...
We've been building frames with the decking that we've had piled in back garden since we moved 5 years ago!! They look lovely, just got to prepare the ground and then try to find a couple of tonnes of topsoil for nothing!
We've also decided that we are going to re-use all the paving slabs we've got piled up around the back garden to build our outdoor seating area...originally I was thinking we would pay someone and get new stuff.....but its such alot of money that I think I should be frugal about it!
I'm still managing to not spend any money...will have to do a Tesco shop and get it delivered on Wdnesday evening, though cause its cheap delivery....
Will catch you all laters....0 -

MarkyMary the fact it's a 'she' who mentioned what they did says more about them than you
I missed the second half of the comment, first time around, because I was so shocked by being turned into Mary.
I should reiterate that it's a friend who said the thing about me, and her opinion matters to me because of that, but equally well I am not feeling challenged in my masculinity! In other words, I can take it whether I agree with it or not.0 -
For those with steady bank accounts. ....start watching out for the interest.
Might only be 1p or 2 but you know what they say, every penny counts!
Total spent on groceries since my last post 31.99. Massive! But I cant see more than a tenner being spent between now and 1st April on food.
Dont bet me though!!:D0 -

Just been looking at the price of rail tickets to my parents. I was always going to drive, I don't much like driving so it was going to be good practice for me (besides the fact I feel a bit old to be still picked up at the station), but then my mum mentioned cheap tickets from Birmingham (my nearest big city and where I would need to change) to Derby (where they live). Thing is, the tickets from here to Birmingham are not cheap so it would cost me over £20 while it would cost me less than £10 by car (as long as I don't crash) and be a lot more convenient (as long as I don't get lost (last time I drove to them I didn't exactly go the wrong way... just a long way round)). So I guess I'll be driving - not very green but I don't drive very often. And I can (naughtily) keep it from my £4000 budget as I don't count my car expenses as I rarely drive except when work makes me (and they made me get a car so if I use it for other things its their fault!)
