I wouldn't worry about what your friend said - life's too short to spend it living up to other people's weird preconceived ideas...Have a beer..but only in a manly sort of glass :D - like these:beer:
I had the beer a bit earlier. :) We went out for a walk with DD in her pushchair and she fell asleep just before we got home, so the OH dragged me (not exactly kicking and screaming) into the local which is 200 yards from our house.

She slept like an angel through the whole drink, too, despite lots of noise in the pub.

The thing about the comment is that this is a friend I respect and generally she talks a lot of sense. I'm over it, anyway. :)

I don't know if I'm going to continue on this thread to be honest. I mean, I'm keeping a record of my spendings, updating the spreadsheet whenever I spend anything etc, but I just feel a little strange being here. I mean, I'm a student, so I don't have huge outgoings anyway, have no family I am trying to bring up or whatever, and so feel I can't really contribute or anything on here...

I think that there's a role for all sorts of people on this thread. I am a non-challenge member but hope that I occasionally say something useful to others. I also find all the people on this thread very encouraging and easy to "speak" to and it's a pleasure to be here. It would be a shame if you left, sf, or anyone else in a similar position.

I should say that I too keep a record of my spending, but I'm not going to share it with anyone because the amounts are too horrific!

Incidentally, your Dr Seuss quote applies very well to the thing I've been posting about today. :)

What you learn will stand you in good stead later.
As a student watching your outgoings will certainly help when your responsibilities and lifestyle change when you finish your studies.
Also you will see other students who will have a bigger debt and no better a life-style than you.
    Carry on contributing here.
    Well done.
I went through college (eons ago) having to work as my parents would not contribute their part of the then grant system. I did lots of money-saving things and they have since been invaluable. My student daughters view some of their friends with surprise as they spend money on rubbish, whilst my two will generally make their own meals rather than eat out. (Except as a treat).

Hya slowly fading, I don't feel I contribute much to the thread, I find that my posts are usually about how much I've spent........not how much I've saved  but if I wasn't checking in and reading everyone else's posts I reckon I'd be much worse off, at least I'm now thinking about what I spend and compared to this time last year am definitely spending less. I also go through spates of when I feel everyone else is doing much better than me and I really wish there had been a site ( or even the internet!!!!) like this when I was younger. and I'm desperately trying to get my DD and DS to look after their finances. What Im trying to say is stay with us!!!

Back from lurking just to say, SlowlyFading - don't go, it really helps being on here and it's habits picked up early in life that will stand you in good stead ...

omg, I've turned into my Mother  :rotfl:

Honestly, it's worth just lurking and sticking around. I, like Marky, am not about to show ANYONE my spreadsheets, but just knowing that I'm trying and supporting others helps me stay more on the straight and narrow than I used to do.

If it helps, I even ended up giving my X what for about spending money the other day!:rotfl:
If you see me on here - shout at me to get off and go and get something useful done!! :D
  • markymark-My husband is 'effeminate' too then!!! Where our daughter is concerned he gets very upset when things are not tickety boo. I shouted at her the other day, for telling lies, and well i was in the dog house!!! it was as if i had shouted at him!!(not that he would be bothered lol) He said she's only 5 and very sensitive (manuipulitive more like). We have three boys and he was never like that with them.....I'm guessing that it's dads n daughters..... The cutting up beef thing is just the mse inside you!!!
Sometimes your the dog, and sometimes your the lampost..:p

I'm just doing loads of work for a club, as I've just taken on the Members Sec job. It's interesting to note that my frugalism has gone out of the window and it's back to some of my old habits.
The heating is on for longer as I'm at the computer more.
Meals are no longer as well planned
Shopping is back to 'dash and grab'. I have been out shopping 3 times this week.
My grow 'your own policy' has gone out of the window - I know I'm going to regret it
I really have to be more sensible as this new 'job' is unpaid.
Roll on April maybe I could look on it as a new start
January food 175.00 spent 181.60 oops nothing left. £4000 challenge/3384.49 left
    heating oil £396.69,

Good morning fellow Frugalites, Frugalite Wannabees and Lurking Frugalites
Whatever your contribution to this thread I think you are all wonderful :T
Each Frugalite who bothers to click on the "Thanks" button after one of my posts gives me a little warm fuzzy glow :happyhear :grouphug:

I have palpitations at the thought of facing the music and updating my totals at the end of this month but having that budget figure as a tangible goal to aim towards has really helped me look at how I spend my money.

I am amazed at how my spending diary has highlighted where the pennies escape to and grow into pounds
Hearing how everyone else deals with life's financial traumas makes me feel part of a group and not a human who has been spotlighted by Fate to bear every financial burden known to the Human Race :rotfl:
I used to think that each creditor I owe money to had a specific employee sitting at a desk with a massive "Janey51" file sat in front of him :D And now I know I am merely a number on a computer printout which the poor Customer Service Advisor  will have to phone on a daily basis and cause grief to.
But we are fighting back :j Whether you have debts or are debt free, you are part of a little group trying to inject humour and a big heap of common sense into daily living.

So come on Fellow Frugalites, whether skint students, doting Dads or manic Mums, we all have something to contribute to this Challenge.
Looking at my own spends this month, I will be asking for generous donations to purchase a large botlle of El Cheapo Vino to drown my sorrows :rotfl:
