We fixed up the clematis only to wake this morning to find it on the drive! We will have to make it more secure this time.;)
I didn't spend anything yesturday, and find that I don't actually spend much apart from food and bills. I popped into the local charity shops and agree, that they have increased their prices....why?!
I need some shoes for work as the sole has come slightly away from the uppers. They are really comfy and cost £25 which isn't bad but I be-grudge spending anything. I think I can glue them but my BF says that I am taking this 'frugalling' too seriously! What a cheek! He'll be laughing on the other side of his face when I'm debt free. :rotfl: I find it sooooo hard to part with my hard earned cash. Does anyone else feel like that?
I'm off now to make a cottage pie and a lasagne. I have made a pot of soup for lunch, out of the meat from Sunday lunch, so a freebie. I love it!:DLiving a frugal retirement without treading on the planet :T

lingojingo Our littlie is still pretty gunked up in the eye department, although I think the eye drops are starting to do some good. She's definitely in less pain in her ears as a result of her drug cocktail. She's on 5 different lots of medicine at the moment - something for her heart condition, antibiotics for the ear infection, eye drops for the conjunctivitis, and 2 different lots of painkilling syrup (paracetamol and ibuprofen) - all at different time intervals and one of which has to be taken not on an empty stomach, so it's a nightmare to keep on top of it.
Sorry you missed your party - and so nice that they wanted to do that for you.
Mollymop You can get generic paracetamol syrup rather than Calpol as it's cheaper and does the same thing. My OH bought branded Nurofen syrup for DD yesterday (because that's what the numpty nurse practitioner told her to buy) and I was a bit annoyed as she knows very well that generics are cheaper. She won't do that again I'm sure.0 -
Mavarickangel Water is also a big issue for us, as it's metered. My shower doesn't work properly and although I share the littlie bath water
I have a tip that might help. When we lived in a caravan without "facilities" we rigged up a shower in the toilet room. we bought pond lining for the floor and put a drain hole in and (this is the important bit) we bought a pressure garden sprayer about 5 litre size and bent the metal sprayer a bit so it hung downwards when we fastened it to the wall. The bottle was filled with warm water and voila we had a shower you just pump it up and go!
It may help a few of you who are on a meter as you soon learn to complete your ablutions before the water runs out.0 -
I made it here before lunchtime! Work's up to date, washing hanging out, although I don't know where it will end up in this wind, and I've done all my charity and points click throughs.
Grandma, I LOVE your frugal shower idea, it's brilliant!
Mumzy - Not my budget, the Government budget, as in the chancellor reading out his report about what's going up in price and, well, that's really about it... prices usually just go up, although there's word that he may be increasing family working tax credits, which could benefit you if you're working. Cigs forecast to go up by about 10p per pack but there's no saying how it will affect us until we hear what he has to say.
Must go check on washing before it blows away and, hopefully, the power won't go off mid-budget. (Sad, I know, but I like to know where my money's going.)
Storm winds started buffetting us earlier this morning, woke up to torrential rain and hail battering the windows this morning but it's beautiful and sunny out there now, with very high winds.I reserve the right not to spend.

Grandma fantastic shower!
Funbrum poor clematis. But it will survive. I have a story to illustrate that
When we moved in to this house, DH made a huge rose arbour type thingy so I could grow roses and clematis which would scent the evening air.
I came home from work one day to see my garden being devoured by a flock of sheep
Now, Bo-Peep I am not so I ran into the garden like a woman possessed and attempted a sheep dog impersonation. And what did the sheep do
Did they run across the grass and onto the road?
No, they hurtled through my rose arbour and galloped off en masse taking my clematis (£1.69 from Morrisons) along on their collective backs.
I rescued the clematis and re-planted it. It grew very well until last year when the gamekeeper decided to buy turkeys to enhance the shooting enjoyment of the estate owner's friends.
Unfortunately, these turkeys do not fly. :rotfl:
They also found my rose arbour the most appealing place to roost at night. Why ?
I have no idea as they have thousands of trees to choose from.
And what did they fancy for a snack?
My clematis.
But it has new shoots coming again :T0 -
Back again, pre-budget on TV in background and I can't help but laugh! All these people being asked what they would like to see... I'd like to see Alistair Darling live on 4k! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

Nyk am a bit worried about the budget if he increases VAT on heating oil we are stuffed.
I have read that he may not increase petrol duty which I am hoping is true. I am all for saving the planet but its a long way to walk to work if I don't have a car.0 -
Grandma My OH's family used to use a shower just like that whenever they went caravanning - this was in the olden days before caravans had integral facilities.
Janey51 I think you mean duty on heating oil, not VAT - I think it's unlikely that VAT will be changed.0 -
Mark
Of course that's what I meant to say but I'm a woman
