Nyk am a bit worried about the budget if he increases VAT on heating oil we are stuffed.
I have read that he may not increase petrol duty which I am hoping is true. I am all for saving the planet but its a long way to walk to work if I don't have a car.

Let's hope he doesn't increase the rate on fuel! It's bad enough at 5%! Even 0.5% increase would cost me an extra fiver that hasn't been taken into account. Marky, if I'm not mistaken, I think Janey means the VAT element of our fuel bills. On the petrol front, looks like he's just delayed the price increase for a few months.

:rotfl: Sorry, he's increased the amount of 'loan' funds for SMEs and wants to help women entrepreneurs... isn't that like encouraging more borrowing but without offering any real incentives that allow women to work AND raise families, keep house AND afford childcare when it's needed?

Financial numpty here - I don't know what SME means.

(I am avoiding the news on budget day and assuming you guys who understand it will update me gently + assume I don't understand any terminology).

I did vote NOT to have 2p fuel rise on petrolprices.com yesterday after I got their email.

Mollymop You can get generic paracetamol syrup rather than Calpol as it's cheaper and does the same thing. My OH bought branded Nurofen syrup for DD yesterday (because that's what the numpty nurse practitioner told her to buy) and I was a bit annoyed as she knows very well that generics are cheaper. She won't do that again I'm sure. :)

you're right Markymark.I always buy the cheaper brands just still call it calpol(old habbits die hard lol).I bought mainly boots own brands yesterday.I have problems with coldsores and have bought zovirex in the past.Yesterday I checked out the ingredients on the backets of that one at £5.99 and superdrugs own at £1.69.Very similar! Guess which one I bought :)

no I haven't does it work? I've had one reaccurring on on lower bottom lift for past 20 years.Since school.I only get it maybe once twice per year in same spot but it usually waits until the day before a job interview or before my one night out lol.I'm told they're stress related so this must be only times I stress :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Well I've been in the woods with school children this morning.Making shelters for Dragons that have had to leave wales because of the storms lol.
It's sooo windy I thought it might have been called off but no we went.Had to hold on very tightly to the children on the way as their little feet nearly took off, but once inside it was lovely and sheltered.
I'm shattered now.A morning in the fresh air certainly takes it out of you :)

Cold sores are stress related. illness, worry, lack of sleep etc. can set one off. I have used teatree oil for a few years now and usually if I use it when i feel the itchy sensation it does not develop. It relieves the pain too. I use it for loads of things. I buy it in h. bargains very cheap

My roundup of this year's budget... IS THAT IT?? I wasted my time for THAT??

Booze and cigs up again, fuel duty increase delayed but still being implemented, increase in winter fuel payments for pensioners and I'm sorry, I have completely forgotten anything else because most of the differences taking effect are last year's delayed results I think.

Works out about £10 PER MONTH WORSE OFF for low earners purely on last year's tax and national insurance changes.

If you smoke 20 cigarettes a day then you will spend an extra £40.15+ per year.

If you drink a bottle of whisky/vodka a week then your habit will cost you an extra £28.60+ per year.

You'll probably get charged a minimum 5p for each plastic carrier bag you use at the supermarket. I won't use them, so that should save me about £5 per year. Should be funny seeing all the fruit & veg rolling about the conveyor belts. Brussells sprouts, anyone? :D

It was a very dull budget. Honestly, they've all been very dull since Labour have been in, because they have leaked anything vaguely interesting for months before the budget itself.

It was far more interesting in the "Maggie" days when I was about 16, with tax cuts every year. :)
