Hi,
I have read all the posts bit by bit and now forgotten everything I was supposed to say so here just few that I can now remember:
Elantan: Well done for finishing your course. I am going to do more finding out about studies tomorrow as in addition to Reiki and Animal communication I would like to start Animal care and Animal management studies in the autumn.
Bails: Hello! :hello: I am here 6 miles away from you.
Janey: It doesn't matter if nobody believes it as the entertainment value is priceless. We have an aspiring publisher on the forum and I am a book seller so I am sure we can get you sorted
I went to take my car in to the garage first thing in the morning to get an estimate how much fixing the exhaust would cost me. I have had nightmares about the bill and was waiting there to be told that they would need to order new exhaust pipe and it would cost me hundreds. After ten minutes this chap comes back and says that he has fixed it. It was just a bracket that had come off and he charged me £5.- for it. :T You can imagine my relief. Apart from that fiver I spent 2.63 for couple of magazines but they will be logged as business costs for the sake of research
Time for night night for me as busy day tomorrow and it should be NSDs from now on until I run out of petrol (Sunday?).

OMG 3 days away from this thread and it's just taken me over an hour to read all I've missed! How busy you've all been.
Hope both the LO's eye colds have cleared up and that Janey's OH is feeling a bit better.
There are so many people I ought to comment on and applaud, far too many to remember who did what, so just consider yourselves all praised and really appreciated.:T
I'm finally better after my throat infection,:j it meant my birthday on Saturday was a bit of a damp squib, although we did still go out for an Italian meal courtesy of my lovely Mum. She went back home to Swindon yesterday, i was really worried that she was going towards the bad weather but she got there ok.
The good thing about beinf ill was that i couldn't go out and spend any money for several days:D
A lovely thing happened at work, the year 11 Spanish class I help in (only 11 of them when they're all there, which is rare:rolleyes:) had arranged a little party for me on Friday period 5, but sadly I wasn't there. One of the boys had enlisted his Grandma's help to bake a delicious cake!!!!!!! which they presented me with today. It's really good to feel appreciated as they haven't always been easy tro work with over the past 5 years (perhaps they're finally growing up, just as they're about to leave).0 -
Hi guys, how's it going?
Still no time to read through much...sorry. Hope you have all survived the great storms. I have a monster tree way up high in the back garden which gives me anxiety every time the wind blows, but it's come up trumps for me again :j
Am finding this extreme frugalling much harder than I thought to be honest. It's all the petty little inconveniences and annoyance and major angst about every decision that involves finance.
It's also really brought home to me how little control I have over major expenditure in areas I haven't really thought about until now. I would always have said I am frugal when it comes to heating, but my last bill was enormous. What do you do? I've turned the thermostat down and the littlies wear 3 or 4 layers but at what point do you give in and switch on the heating?
We have a log burner, but as a child brought up on endless cold and coal fires I wouldn't put them through the "I want to go to the loo but it's sub-zero outside of the eiderdown what do I do?" dilemma.
Water is also a big issue for us, as it's metered. My shower doesn't work properly and although I share the littlie bath water (:D ) and follow the "if it's yellow let it mellow, if it's brown, flush it down" mantra (sorry  ) we still manage to consume significantly.
Suddenly I feel a burning urge to buy some land and live in a yurt or teepee. Any wifi teepee dwellers around for some advice? :T
I think I will shut up now and go and do some work. I have been imbibing home brew (I suspect my marrow rum causes blindness and hallucinations) so will depart whilst faculties more or less intact.
stay frugal guys.Live on £4000 for 2008 Challenge No. 27:eek:0 -

Evening peeps,
Another no spend day for me today:D Made storecupboard/freezer meals so no need to do any shopping.
Not had time tonight to do mumzy's iced buns yet but have all ingredients so will make them tomorrow. Made 28 jars of marmalade this afternoon ready for oldies Easter fayre, and put together some gift baskets with stuff that we got after xmas bogof from boots. Need to make some cakes tomorrow too  MMMmmm wonder if my oldies would like iced buns on the refreshment stallwill see what sort of a job I make of them;)
Just realised I need a loaf for tomorrow so will go and stick a basic one in breadmaker in a minute (or two) it can bake whilst i am surfing:D
Hope you have all had a good day.0 -
Just popping back for a final round-up as I thought of all you grugalers when tonight's news had an item filmed from inside a nuclear bunker that's for sale in Penrith/Cumbria! It's NOT the one I was talking about but it was really funny having been talking about them and then seeing the news article. I can now say I have seen inside one and won't need to take a trip to the Isle of Arran just to be nosy. :rotfl:
Bread looks fine tonight and I managed to cram an apple pie and a large apple turnover into the oven at same time. (Well, when I say 'apple turnover', I actually mean the remains of the pastry folded over a grated apple with some demerara sugar on top to save wasting it). That's me had 8 no spend days out of 11 so far and I'm feeling quite proud of myself. I'll be even happier when I hear if I've got my fire grate; fingers crossed that I hear tomorrow
 TOMORROW! IT'S BUDGET DAY!
And we've just had the storm warnings for here (got candles at ready) and there's been another news article about wheat prices going up again! I need one of those huge flour bins so I can stockpile without worrying about evil little weevils! (D'you think the bread, pastry and biscuit manufacturers check every gram of flour for weevils?)
MavericAngel that was a really good post, I'm glad you are still with us and hope you don't get too inebriated by the fumes from that home brew! I heard it was frugally intoxicating, which is very different from mildly intoxicating. :rotfl:
Lingo - hope you're feeling much better now and enjoyed your birthday (and cake)
Catch you all tomorrow lunchtime. Keep on frugalling fellow frugalitesI reserve the right not to spend.

Well, the predicted Apocalyptic storms didn't really do much last night after all. But then, we are hard north of the border
DH is bored. Which means I am a little edgy as I have no idea what to do to amuse him as he is usually outside doing shed things
Came home from work last night to discover my kitchen had turned into a cardboard jungle as he had decided to look at all his new tools. I did restrain myself from making cutting comments but gave him a Paddington Bear stare so he knew I was not amused
Today I feel guilty so will be making suitably delicious (but frugal) tidbits to tempt his palate. He has finished the chocolate cake, the quiche that was for tomorrow's tea and managed to find the crisps which were hidden. I can make biscuits but I know I will be tempted myself.
Went to the Co-op at 9.30 last night to see if there were any bargains. Managed to get a big joint of pork for £4 (£3.20 off) which will feed everyone at Easter as DS and wife have invited themselves for the weekend. There were no reduced loaves so had to get proper ones. I know I could make them but the genes responsible for successful breadmaking appear to have been missed from my DNA :rotfl: I even failed with the breadmaker. Somehow managed to throw away a vital attachment from the bottom of the machine and it cost me £12 to replace
My old Kenwood Chef (Ebay purchase via Quidco) is fantastic for making my "no-fail" traybakes.
I really need (want) a new baking tin but need a good one and can't bear to part with the cash. The one I want is in the Lakeland Catalogue....a dangerous place for frugalites to enter.... so I'll continue to line my old battered tin with many layers of greaseproof.
Quite a few branches have come down so I am off to do some frugalling :j0
