Lollopy Nothing like a good tease. ;)

Well, it makes it sound less money-saving if I tell the full story.

A friend at work told me that his friend was about to sell a secondhand sat nav on eBay, and asked if I was interested. I was, because he was happy to sell it for at least £25 less than they fetch on eBay because of the risk-free nature of the deal if he did it with me instead.

Then my friend got another e-mail from his friend offering free tickets to this festival, which his company was sponsoring. So I asked my friend to see if I could have the tickets as he wasn't interested, and so we got them. :)

So they were free, but I did buy the bloke's sat nav.

We had a very long day there - from 11am to 9pm - but eventually had to leave because DD was getting really tired. She did well to survive that long, I think. It meant we only got one dance at the ceilidh and missed one band.

    Morning Frugalites :j

Are we all ready for the storms coming in?

As a frugalite, the positive aspects of high winds are
    1. Lots of fallen branches to collect for log burner.
    2. Loads of cones blown down to collect for fire lighting.

DH is a bit worried about his new baby....the shed now gracing our front garden :D
But it is huge and weighs a ton so I'm sure it will be OK. If it does suffer, we could always burn the bits in the log burner :rotfl:

Will be doing my usual this morning and "sharing" my Mum's washing with ours in the big communal machine where she lives. I am sure this is a big electric saving for us over the months as I can use the tumble dryer which I would be reluctant to do at home.

Just read this post back and no, my Mum doesn't live in a communal machine:rotfl:

    Mark nice friends you have!
We love our Sat Nav and it has saved our marriage on many an occasion ;)

andromache I love the way alcohol figures as an essential in your budget :D

maverickangel I am so pleased I haven't got into the mobile phone thing. It is such a part of everyday life for so many people now. Its probably a good thing that we have no reception where we live or I would be the same. I only put about £10-£15 a year on my PAYG and have never texted in my life. And how I remember staying out all night when I was a student nurse :rotfl:

nyk no, I haven't managed to save £7,200 since January I was already paying a regular sum into another savings account but since starting the challenge, I managed to up the monthly payment from £200 to £500 so will just be on target in April :j

    Morning peeps:D

Woke this morning to a loud crash, lots of swearing and the smell of baileys  . Further investigations found OH desperately trying to clean a whole big bottle of baileys off the carpet:eek: He is now well and truly in the doghouse today, not only for wasting a big bottle of my baileys but also for leaving a horrible stain on my just replaced carpet:mad:

    Plans for today:
    • Try and find something to get stain out of carpet
    • Cook tea for oldies and eat with them for free
    • Plant tomato seeds, and runner bean seeds. Check what left over seeds we can recycle from last year.
    • Have a NO spend day
    Have a good day everyone:D
    Reduce,re-use, recycle.

    Phew....just caught up!

Well done Mumzy on the school:T There's nothing like getting your kids into great schools!

Janey...tough love is the way forward, i'm sure. Some one has to want to sort themselves out. You can hold their hand but they need to do it for themselves.

Marky...you must have been helping the same people as me! I'm owed a shed-load, and got some back in drips and drabs, then nothing! What gets to me is that this so called 'friend' is going to New York this year, and has done so (for St.Particks parade) for the last 7yrs! I won't be falling for that one again!;)

Marru...Well done on for being brave enough to change direction:T

Elantan..I wanted to be able to practice Reike, so good for you! I did however learn Aromatherapy and a bit of reflexology, but I hate feet so that was a flop!:rotfl:

Bails...I thought I saw your Mojo, giving it loads on the dance floor,
in a night club on Broad Street, (B'ham) but when I looked again, it had gone! I must stop drinking!:D

CA...how much! you poor thing. But I'm sure if any one can live on that fiver..you can;)

Well folks, I'm off now to prepare the (frugal)Sunday roast. We always have it paid for by BF dad and there is always enough for another meal and soup for the week! No wonder I dont spend much on on groceries!:rotfl:

Sophiesmum...I think you're great:T When I was a house-keeper for a Catholic priest...no, not Fr.Ted...although the TV series had nothing on us!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: I was always eating with them, thus I didn't have to eat at home! Great frugaling!;) :D

    Hi funbrum
I look on it as a bartering system ;) I spend my time off work shopping for the ingredients then cooking them so that around 25 people don't have to sit alone in their flats and eat a ready meal:eek: . In return I save on the shopping bill as me OH and DD get fed for free. Everyone wins :j - I also get to use the left over veggies/stock etc for making soup, and OH gets the peelings for compost bin. :D:D

Janey LOL at the thought of your Mum living in a large communal washing machine. Very frugal I'm sure but a bit damp at times. ;)

Funbrum The friends I'm talking about don't spend on holidays and stuff like that - which would really be taking the proverbial - but one of them does have a newer car than my wife, and that was bought after borrowing (and not repaying) money.
