Mumzyof2 WTG!! It's all sounding like a worse and worse lottery from what you hear in the press.
We are lucky to live in a village with 3 primary schools, all of which are OK, so if DD doesn't get into the first choice it won't be the end of the world.0 -
Excellent news, Mumzy!I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

Ha ha ha, just the laugh I needed, thanks Nyk! :rotfl:As the mojo is priceless though, what reward would be adequate?
Well done on the reiki course Elantan, can you tell us a bit more about 'hsp', don't know what that is?
Congrats Mumzy, that's great news!
I'm thinking of doing some OU (depending on if a job comes up or not) - why is it that whenever I look, the courses I fancy are just being phased out? Anyone who's done some OU study, do I really need to do one of the introductory courses? (I'm thinking of the money of course!)

... STOP PRESS ... STOP PRESS ... STOP PRESS ...
Hot off the press at the Frugal Bugle...
Bails' Mojo spotted running wild with a herd of haggis in the hills of Scotland. After desperately seeking solace in the fact that her pupils were suffering from Friday sickness, Bail's assumed her Mojo had just wandered off but remained nearby. However, eyewitness accounts have provided conclusive evidence that the escaped Mojo has managed to cover several hundred miles during its northward journey. When asked about the prospect of retraining in an effort to recapture her lost Mojo, Bails replied, "B***er that!"
It remains to be seen if the owner even wants the wayward Mojo returned if (or when) it is re-captured. No reward has yet been offered for its safe return. :rotfl:

This is sort of related to our challenge and its needing a bit of advice for me to deal with.
My niece is 30, has 3 kids, is divorced, about to get married again and is hopeless with money.
Her Mum (my sister) emigrated last year..actually left behind a huge pile of debt which Debt Collectors have been contacting me about as she used our address as a forwarding address
So, I have bailed my niece out on numerous occasions over the past year but thought she had finally got herself sorted.
Got a tearful phone call earlier this evening to say her phone was going to be cut off unless she paid BT £150 tomorrow.
At first I said "no" as she is still paying me back for insuring her car. But then I felt sorry for her and agreed to lend her the money.
When I gave it to her I said she has to stop buying the kids designer clothes, buying presents for them and her fiancee. I gave her the lecture about saving for emergencies which I give her every time.(her telephone money had been spent on repairing the washing machine)
I know I am making things worse by not saying "no" and meaning it but she has had such a disastrous life...has been self harming and is on anti-depressants as well as having counselling.
Do I just stop helping her? Do I tell my sister? I am in a real quandary because I know she is not helping herself and I really can't imagine how she thinks she and her fiancee (both on benefits) are going to pay for a wedding with 200 guests
I have offered to help her budget but nothing ever comes of it.
Oh bum. Wish I didn't worry so much about other people's problems.
The money we lent her is from the insurance money so its not as if its actually "ours" if you know what I mean.0 -
I've also posted this on the Sealed Pot Challenge - so apologies to anyone who reads it twice
Mumzy - congrats on your son getting into the school you wanted
I don't post on here (or anywhere really (too shy)) a lot, but I'm so excited. If it wasn't for this thread and the Sealed Pot Challenge thread, I would not be going away for a few days holiday tomorrow!! I've used some unexpected (unbudgeted) money to pay for a coach tour to Scotland for 5 days, and my spending money is coming from the £2 coins that I've been saving in a separate pot to my Sealed Challenge (which in itself is almost full - will need to find new pot soon). So this morning I released £80 in £2 coins back into the wild via the building society and now have 8 crisp shiney new £10 notes to spend. Wah hay
Thanks everyone for the inspirational posts and for the sense of community that comes through in the posts - I feel as if I belong even though I am the (very) distant relative that you only see on high days and holidays.
Also, bails, I'll keep an eye out for your mojo while I'm in Scotland - do you think it will have reached the Pitlochry area by tomorrow?
Take care all
