liloandstitch the problem is that if we don't have SKY we have no TV at all as the area where we live is quite remote and has no ordinary TV reception without satellite unless we pay for one of those huge aerials to put in the garden. Its also why we don't have mobile phones as there is no mobile reception unless we climb to the top of the nearest hill (discovered by my son!

Janey, sorry I dont think I explained it very well. You still use the satelite you just dont pay for it!!!!!!!!!!!! You do not receive as many channels, but you do receive the basic ones, plus some others ie bbc, itv etc. You can buy from the shops a prepaid satellite service (ie for one year freesat?) and this works like that. Once you have stopped paying, they stop all the packages that you pay for - BUT YOU KEEP THE REST - no need to do anything!!! Your card carries on working, and there is nothing that sky can do. The only shame is that sky scramble some of the free to air channels, for eg sky sports news and E4 but you will get all the normal channels - BBC (all of) itv etc etc. I hope this clarifies it a bit better - we have the same aerial problem and this worked for us. • Whish I'd seen this post befor Jan 1st.

Interesting concept and I'm going to get a buget sorted to see if I can manage this as I realy could do with getting some savings sorted.

    Thanks for the insperation.
  • Janey51 - I would agree with liloandstitch. We haven't had Sky for years but we still get quite a few channels - we don't think it's worth the money to get more channels to waste time not watching! If you are really interested in something then quite often all the information is online anyway, and frequently you can watch it on your 'puter! I can't, we're on dial-up, but you never know what you can find out in Netland :D

    Best of luck

  • Hello all! :hello:
Just popping by to try and catch up on all your posts and to update siggy as it's the end of the week. Hope u are all well and happy and wish u all the best for a frugal yet fun fourth week!
An expensive week for me this, which included DD1's birthday, 3(eek!) pairs school shoes and boots for the children, £55 worth of telephone bills (landline, broadband and mobiles), and an impromptu trip to that Swedish store!
Total spend : £119.14 of which only £30.59 grocery spend - including £11.50 for organic fruit n veg bags :cheesy:
Back in the days I would've spend more than that in the Swedish store alone so more than happy to be here in such good company :heartpuls

  • :hello: Forgot to tell you all that I also opened a savings account - (put £10 in), paid off some extra on my CC - so £50 now paid off in total this month so far - and also saved £45 in a jar over the past 3 weeks which I gave to DD2 this morning to pay towards her school journey in July (now only £120 in total left to pay b4 end of April) :j :T

Hopeless, I had graduated you to Hopeful, now it seems you have outgrown that name and need a new 'hope' pre-fix! Well dont you!! Savings account, check, debt payment, check, spare change saved and used frugally, check... I make that three out of three on that score :T :T :T

I just did a check through my points and loyalty bonuses etc tonight and have sent off for a FREE year's subscription to Good Living magazine through iPoints. I still have enough left for another magazine subscription but am going to keep this as I like giving these as gifts :D I also had a frantic desk rake and retrieved £2.50 worth of Tesco Clubcard points that I knew were lurking because I kept changing my mind about what deals I wanted. It was a toss-up between saving for a home study course, using them for the ferry fare to Ireland or getting a friend some driving lessons. Well, the friend is now an ex-friend, and I just don't have the time for any more studies right now, so I have ordered £10 worth of deals for Stena Line and now I am pleased with myself that I eventually made the decision! I've never been to Ireland before but I'd love to visit the Giant's Causeway, so I've decided to make it another personal challenge - to go there this year and still keep within my budget :D

This is my second year of officially doing this challenge and it will definitely be continuing in 2009, so why not do up your budget and join us unofficially - we have quite a few others doing this and everyone is free to join in and exchange notes. If you decide to join at a later date, say 1st April, then your budget would be £3000, or wait until 1st July and start with £2000... we don't mind and the more, the merrier. :T

I've just been clocking up my Piggy points and I should now have enough to afford my OH's surprise rally driving day! :T Didn't expect to manage it so early, thanks to SW trains it's been possible! And Quidco give 12% back on Red Letter Days so I'm laughing! :jAll the way to the [strike]bank[/strike] cash ISA :D
