Nearly had a disaster when I realised I had run out of soap powder but saved the day by washing the only 2 essential items in washing up liquid.
  • Hehehehe, I love those frugal warnings! They are so apt.

Thanks for the tips about cashback for insurance. Is it always better to get buildings and contents insurance as seperates? Ours comes up for renewal in Feb so this is very very useful! Also, what are the best cashback sites for insurance?

I managed to get away with a £6 spend today so quite pleased with myself. I'm really looking forward to the end of the month! It's such a challenge.

  • :D:D:D:D:D:D:D Hi Guys,

Conratulations:j to graciesgran on getting your allotment. My sister managed to get a very overgrown one last year. We have come to a deal where she will give me lovely fresh fruit n' veg throughout the Summer and I will make all of the curtains and blinds for her new house.

nykmedia - thank you, I have ordered a previously loved copy of 'Frugal Food' from the 'second longest river in the world' website for 99p plus £2.75 p&p. Unfortunately I had to use my CC which I hadn't used since b4 Christmas.
Still hopefully will get some really good cheap ideas for meals.

DO today so went to the 'summer pastures' supermarket to try the £10.00 challenge. Unfortunately I didn't do anywhere as well as nykmedia and I ended up spending £17.49:eek: My man said that he would not eat at my place again if I bought the value baked beans instead of the '57 varieties' type. (It did cross my mind that it would be even more moneysaving if he didn't eat at my house!!). However I relented and bought the ones he wanted. I also got some 100% extra ham for £2.00 and some beef mince which was half price (£1.50). There wasn't any cat food left that was on special offer and the 'special milk drink for healthy guts' was nearly £4.00!!!! (about £2.50 elsewhere).

However, I managed to get my face cream free with my B**** points and a brand new pair of shoes from a charity shop for £8.50. So a good day overall.

Take care fellow frugalites, will update my signature at the end of the month.

Lollopybear, I went through Greasypalm and took one policy with Nat West and one with Lloyds TSB. Nat West cashback has already been paid - £70 -and Lloyds has a ticket issued for missing cashback!! I'd try the Nat West and get your quote in soon - offer ends 29th Feb. I'll PM you the details and I'm going to try my luck at the referals board :)

Forgot I had a good deal for insurance for my Mum last year via Quidco with a company for the older customer who likes long Norse stories... Paid £40 for a contents policy costing £44.

Hiya, just popped on to say even though I'm not doing the challenge, I've been following it closely and you're all doing so well. What a great thread/experiment and I can't wait to see how you all do by the end of the year.
This whole thread could be turned into a great book (eventually)...now there's an idea!

Yeah! Can anyone out-frugal my insurance policy? I paid £75.60 for annual policy and got £70 cashback :) OK, I've gone on about this long enough now but I STILL can't believe the cashback amount and keep checking my account to make sure they haven't taken it back out again :rotfl:

Someone was talking about eggs recently and having to buy by the half dozen and risk not using them all; well I asked at my local shop if they would sell their farm eggs individually and, after the shopkeeper stopped rolling around the floor and laughing hysterically, she said yes. I paid the 45p for my local potatoes and left happy :T

Re the book suggestion: only problem is, I already have the book, I'm just sharing it with a few friends online ;):D
