Hi guys. Whats freecycle? My Husband calls me a money pervert :A0
-
hya everyone........Friday.......and its been a long week......Guess what I spent today 2,300.......nope not a typo:eek:   and obviously not included in the challenge,!!!!!!!
When I bought the house I took extra out to replace kitchen, bathroom and central heating. I bought the kitchen and bathroom from B&Q just after Christmas in the sale. Saved 600 on the kitchen and they gave me a hob and oven....well, they didnt really give me it, but you know what I mean. and today I paid for it. Now I just need to organise workies to fit it.
A friends son was going to fit, but he's moving down south in March so Ive got a couple of numbers, one looks really promising, but before I can get the kitchen fitted I need to get the back boiler moved to a combi boiler in the kitchen. Cant wait for it to be done, but hate trying to organise things like this. Am a bit like Scarlett......I'll think about it tomorrow!!!!! and I hate having to make big decisions. It really stresses me out
I should be more like Rafiki and chill..........well done on the 2nd job. I was thinking about this too, but am far too lazy. Now if someone was to knock on the door and say.......there you go, a few hours a week in Tesco etc start Monday..... Id do it
am going now cos if I dont go off line now I'll be here all night aND I need to catch up on housework
Speak soon

Heres what the site says.....
The Freecycle Network™ is made up of 4,224 groups with 4,326,000 members across the globe. It's a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns. It's all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills. Each local group is moderated by a local volunteer (them's good people). Membership is free. To sign up, find your community by entering it into the search box in Google. Have fun!
It can be really usefull but you have to be a bit lucky. We got rid of big stuff there like the pram and the cot when DD didnt need them and then got play equip for garden.
Have a nosey about and see what you think.0 -
Thanks for the info about the council tax "free days"....I'll have £132 extra next month and March , which is a great relief. I have also started watching my electricity metre and it is amazing how much you can save by being careful....and you are a lot more careful if you watch the metre readings!

Rafiki - well done on the second job...just dont knacker yourself out!!
Sweetpea - have kind of told OH about it, he read what I had put on her the other night and was laughing saying that he thought I was boring people. Told him to shut up, anyway it must have got him thinking as he suggested that we go payg on the mobiles when the contracts are up and he made me two Quiches yesterday while he was cooking t.... he's a really good cook but I always feel guilt about him cooking when he had worked fulltime and I'm parttime!! I'd say he's slowly getting more involved.
Spends today - £25 to have a mobile unlocked, had tried on here but too new!....£1.20 parking and 60p chocWIN £2008 in 2008 £1836.31 2009 wins - £91!!! 2010 wins in Oz $ 6170.... wins 2011 aprox $2000

Hi guys. Whats freecycle?
Freecycle is a nationwide/ international scheme where people can exchange things they no longer want - the sole objective of Freecycle is to save things from landfill and the only criteria is that no money is to change hands ie everything's free! Once you've joined your local group, you can get daily emails (a lot of emails) or just log onto the site to check what people are offering. If you see something you're interested in you simply reply to the post and then wait to see if you are chosen to receive the item. Whoever is offering it chooses who to give it to. If you have something to offer, write a post then choose who you want to give it to from the replies you get. You can also post a 'WANTED' for something and see if anyone has one to offer you (check the recent posts first though in case there's already one being offered). Each group has slightly different 'etiquette' so be sure to read the info first - if you're not sure of anything you can always ask your moderators for help, but we do prefer it if it's not a question you could have answered yourself by reading the intro:D (mods are busy people who just volunteer in their spare time). If you've got any general questions, feel free to ask me, but as I said your group may differ slightly from ours.

Well, we had to pay the garage £58 to tell us the car was knackered today (not part of this challenge thankfully) but we did get a stonking good deal from the bakery - the owner seems to have a soft spot for OH and so we got a carrier bag rammed full of pizza slices, cakes, pasties, croissants etc etc for a quid, :T plus a half price loaf (75p but v yummy) to tide us over til I get the breadmaker out. That'll keep his revision munchies at bay
I also got a fire engine pottery piggy bank for £1 (to start someone's baby off on the MS mission early), 10 little envelopes for 30p and 10 cards for £1, all from the charity shop. So some bargains to help ease the car 'ouch'! The road was completely flooded so we wasted some petrol getting lost, finally got to the cafe we were going to (to get OH out of the house to revise in a change of scenery) to find it was shut - so we saved money there too! And I was going to have one of their delicious (and actually hot) hot chocolates, darn!

Thank you for your support, people. It makes a world of difference. Juliejay, I laughed when I read your post...I know the feeling about not being 'normal' until Easter.
We are low on food now until my child benefit comes in (hopefully Monday). But we do have loads of frozen veg (cauliflower, brussels, peas, green beans). I also have a slow cooker, which I am thinking about pulling out of the back of the cupboard. Can anyone tell me how to make veg soup, please (it's mainly quantities that I'm uncertain of)?
All the best today, everybody. Should be a nsd today, and tomorrow.
As with the other peeps I dont measure any veggies, just bung them in! But a tip I learned was to grate peeled potatoes into the soup and it thickens as it cooks the grated pots;) Just what is needed on cold miserable nights like tonight!:DLiving a frugal retirement without treading on the planet :T

A bit of bad month for me as I had a few one off payments:
- £78 (dentist)
- £25 (car MOT)
- £19 (Summer weekend break hotel payment)
However, the only other thing I've really bought is food shopping (£81 so far). I was foolish and failed to stock up the freezer on the 31st December like the rest of you!
On top of that I have my monthly £250 worth of direct debits.
£453 spent so far out of £500 so could be a bit tight by the end of the month!0
