  • Well done on the job Rafiki :T

Its raining done here in Kent too and just got to do the nursery drop-off

I spent £6 on petrol for DH moped last nite so that should see him through the next few weeks and £15 in Tesco but some of that was baby stuff so once my grant has come through I will be able to take the money out of there!!

  • Good morning all you lovely challengers :)

Heres the soup recipe for you Thrifty (aren't you brave! :p)

    Sweet Potato & Tomato Soup

    2 sweet potatoes, chopped
    2 onions, chopped
    1 carrot chopped
    3/4 pt veg stock
    1/2 teaspn dried thyme
    1 can chopped tomatoes
    seasoning

lightly fry the chopped veg in a little oil for about 5 mins till softened. Add the whole can of tomatoes, veg stock, thyme & seasoning. Lightly simmer for 20-30 mins till veg are soft, then liquidize. Add more water & seasoning if you like & enjoy! (hopefully! :D) I would love the recipe for your mushroom soup when you have time :)

Thanks for the other soup recipes everyone, do you think we'll be eating soup alot on this challenge?! :D

I have had another NSD as living out of freezer but will have to get petrol soon. I am really enjoying this challenge in a perverse sort of way.
I have just changed electricity and gas from British gas to npower and the DDs are £10 per month cheaper( down from £82 to 72) so that £10 goes back into my spending money. Can anyone tell me if it's this month or next that we don't have to pay the DDs for the Council Tax...as if it's this month then I have an additional £132 that isn't going out for this tax....I've factored all of the DDs in but forgot about the 2 "free months"

Council tax 'free' months are feb and march I called up yesterday :)

Great!!! Might pay this of my mortgage instead. I think mine is something like £99 a month or something like that.
GM Credit Card balance - £895.69

  • Firstly congratulations on the job Rafiki, thats brilliant news :T

I was wondering if you have all told your oh's/families that you are doing this challenge? I haven't told mine so far & I've come to a decision to keep it a secret until the end of the challenge & hopefully astound my dh with the amount of savings that we will have. We have been together a long time & up until last year always had debts to pay & we've never had any savings so I'm hoping he will be over the moon :) We have separate accounts so its pretty straightforward to keep a secret & he has no idea so far (as long as the food keeps coming it should be ok!) I am really looking forward to the day I finally tell him & its helping me keep motivated too :)

I have also been doing some numbercrunching to see just how much taking part in the challenge will save me. Its a bit tricky to work out as my income varies each month but by the end of the year IF I stick to the challenge I would have a minimum of 5K & a maximum of 8.5K in savings :j I am really thrilled with the prospect of this, I never dreamed that doing the challenge would save me this much, so thanks so much nyk for starting this thread :)

Lunch today is soup!!! & we are having hotpot for tea.

I've had 2 no spend days in a row & today should hopefully be one too.

Have a great Friday everyone :)

Rafiki, congrats what job is it? I've been looking for an evening job for ages.

I don't think I'll be in budget this month :( have £6 of it left and kept thing well I get paid on 21st, but I still have another 2 weeks till end of month & I'll need food before then :( £250 is bills though (to come out 21st) the rest was just wasted. Oh well no big bank charges to come out next month, though it does come out of my next pay but thats still Jan :)
  • Definitely going to make that sweetpotato soup today for free because all of that stuff is in already. Might get some nice bread to go with it because it sounds worth it.
I dont have a bread maker. Might have a go by hand over the weekend with some of that Lidl flour. Going to have a rummage in the back of the cupboard now to see if there yeast and if so how old. Might even be growing my own at the back of the cupboard by now.
    More money saving! :T
  • :rotfl: @ the yeast growing juliejay! hope you enjoy the soup & the breadmaking today :)

Being very quiet now. Are we all watching Martin, then? Like Paul Daniel's idea about calling them 'debt cards' rather than credit cards.

Debbie McG gets the weekly email, hey. She's probably one of our 112? Jacksxxx are you Debbie in Disguise with your opulent lifestyle, lol?

 :D You mean am I married to Paul Daniels?! *shudder* Heaven forbid!

    Love Jacks xxx :D

PS I've got a man coming round to look at our roof cos we seem to have lost a lot of tiles, and I'm just about to look up how much my "Prescriptions Season Ticket" is going to cost me for the year, as it's due to run out in a few days. So there'll be another lavish update from me soon I expect. :D

You are most welcome to send me a private message and at some point this weekend I'll forward details to you (there are a couple in London and surrounding counties...)

Btw, sweetpea & PL, thank you so very much for the congrats! :j
