  • Well I've had a rather productive day today. Kept the kids off nursery due to gale force winds (I'm in Glasgow), but nipped over to Tesco's midday for bread and milk and found there reduced cabinet was chocca-block with meat.

I bought two packs of their rather expensive steak mince for a total of £3.40 and from that I've made burgers, bolanaise , two meals worth of shepherds pie (full of veg) and some pasties...all destined for my almost filled to capacity freezer......if this carries on I'll be needing a second freezer!

My cat is not impressed though , he's a Brand name food only type of cat - only whiskas or felix is good enough for him, he is 13 years old and is not happy to be given supermarket alternatives.

Got to go now, nipping back to tesco, just in case I missed something earlier.

:grouphug: and :kisses: to you all.

Been lazy today. Instead of doing more packing and sorting out change of addresses I pretended my cold was worse than it is, had a lemsip and afternoon nap. But did manage to ring BT - £120 to have a phone in my new flat:eek: I think moving to somewhere new is more expensive than moving to somewhere someones already been living - had to buy curtain rails as well! Also saw landlady and she is giving me £50 for my washing machine that I am not taking with me - this is good and bad, I could probably have got more but can't be bothered to chase around trying when I have so much else to do (that I'm not doing).

Spent £5.77 on food and medication at Morrisons, also petrol but that isn't coming out of the £4000. So far this "year" Money saving  , getting up and doing what I am supposed to do  , general quality of life and future prospects :T .

Being very quiet now. Are we all watching Martin, then? Like Paul Daniel's idea about calling them 'debt cards' rather than credit cards.

Debbie McG gets the weekly email, hey. She's probably one of our 112? Jacksxxx are you Debbie in Disguise with your opulent lifestyle, lol?

  • Hmph, I ended up spending more than I wanted to today - £7. £5 was for my train ticket as normal, but then I had to spend 40p on a cup of tea! (I've started at my second placement school and you have to pay for the tea there at breaktime as you can't access a kettle to make your own at this point) Then there was a meeting after school for my department so I had to take the bus back to the station as my lift left at the normal time and it is too far to walk so that cost me a further £1.60.

On better news I met a woman who offered me a lift all the way for a few days so that will reduce my train fare dramatically, though I will offer her some money towards petrol. I've been trying to phone to confirm but there's no answer yet.

Regarding hair, I also have very long hair NYK and haven't been to the hairdresser since I was 5 years old! My mum used to trim it for me and now hubs does it.

I love reading everyone's journey on this challenge :) and I also would like to say thanks to those who are watching and sending such lovely messages of encouragement. It's very motivational!

I'm totally addicted to this thread! And even though I'm not in the challenge I'm so inspired that I'm following lots of the advice and my spending has halved. :T
A few people have mentioned pets and vets. I remember my old dogs cost me a fortune - the drugs they needed for their various ailments were so expensive. It wasn't until both dogs were dead (of old age - I didn't bump them off to save money!) that I read you can ask your vet for a prescription instead of buying the drugs at the surgery - you then take the prescription to the chemist's just like you would take a doctor's prescription and it's often a lot cheaper. The vets won't like it but apparently they have to give you a prescription if you ask for one. Has anybody actually done this?
    Keep up the good work!

mumzy, I really feel for you with this :( I went through something similar when I was paying off my debts when I worked out that i owed nearly £800 more than I thought & it is pretty gutting I know especially when you've put every effort into reducing the debt. But please please don't give up with it, you will catch back up soon enough, when I read your post on the previous page I felt so proud of you & what you've achieved & you sounded really happy, content & proud of yourself too :) So what I wanted to say was keep up the good work, you're doing so well on this challenge, don't give up & one day you will achieve your dreams :) xx
