Why are people doing test payments? I intend to shove my £20k in as soon as the 2nd letter with "the code" arrives.Don't get it..1

If the info is of any use to anyone I opened a 3 year bond at 5% on the 7th. Sent a £1 test payment on the 8th and got an email rejecting it for being too low on the 10th which confirmed in my mind that I'd entered all details correctly. After the reject email I transferred part of my deposit also on the 10th. This deposit appeared in my account late on the 11th. And today (the 12th) I got an email thanking me for my deposit and my account is now showing an interest rate of 5%. Now all seems to be going OK I'll probably transfer the rest of my deposit on Monday.1

, I didnt enter my account number in the payment ref ...in my defense I was probably being a bit casual because it was only a test payment). When sending 10's of thousands of your hard earn cash its nice to have some assurance.
