Morrisons Doubling Prices on some items - when inflation is 10%

In response to Luna:Later (as I seem to be having trouble with the quote function) if you like to believe the ONS acts independently of government when it defines the inflation figure, fine. I in common with many others, do not.0

All of which are own label products - and probably under contracted pricing for a period (or at least until the supplier goes bust)Cornucopia said:There are examples of products that haven't changed price much, though - just a few off the top of my head:-
- Aldi Salad Bag (Mixed Leaves) - 57p before, went up a bit, and now back at 57p.
- Aldi/Lidl Small Seeded Loaf - was 65p, now 69p
- Tesco "Growers Harvest" Soya Milk - 55p
- Aldi Essentials Chocolate - 33p
So, as above, the average inflation rate will include some products that haven't gone up much, and others that have gone up more. Which is what we'd expect as the impact on prices doesn't affect all supply lines equally.
Not sure - there are an awful lot of other own brand products that have gone up, including the one that this thread starts with.0 -
And there are a plethora of different supply contracts - some of which will allow movement based on commodities/inflation and others that won't (or will have specific timings in there)Cornucopia said:k3lvc said:

It's not difficult to see that food inflation is well above the ONS inflation rate and shortages/transport issues aren't helping.- for packaged items containing a number of ingredients probably 15-20% and for single commodities it could be much more1 -
I don’t really go in for conspiracy theories though, and as this data is critically important for my job I know enough about it to discount this one.A._Badger said:In response to Luna:Later (as I seem to be having trouble with the quote function) if you like to believe the ONS acts independently of government when it defines the inflation figure, fine. @cymruchris where do you get your info from? I'd be interested to read more 'behind-the-scenes' stuff."One has to free oneself from the illusion that international climate change policy is environmental policy. Instead, climate change policy is about how we redistribute de facto the world's wealth." - Ottmar Edenhofer, IPCC economist, interviewed at COP161

It's absolutely critical for my job, too and I can't think of a single person I know in my industry who believes inflation is 10.%. So let's drop the lazy 'conspiracy theory' tag and talk about supermarket prices shall we?LunaLater said:

We online shop at tescos since covid
Now popininto into Morrisons once/twice a week to top up/etc. Yesterday we went into Morrisons and Iceland. I'm not the expert re food prices as Mrs Diy is but in Icelands looking at burgers etc, I felt prices had rocketed.
At morrisions we did get a bargain x 5. Chicagotwon stuffed cheesy crust large pizza, was 325p last years price. This had been and we have paid Tescos 450 per pizza but yesterday at Morrisons it was 325p and now their normal price is 400p. The larger stuffed crust extra cheese is not normally discounted.
Even their own lable stuff is rising as I and not the others like their cheap quiche.

Block of Lidl cheese, pretty much a staple product, now £2.75, another +10p since a couple of weeks ago, from around £1.69 a year ago.

There are a few Aldi & Lidl cheeses that haven't increased much, but not many.
The Lidl 300g of Cheddar Slices now looks like a bit of a bargain at £1.59.
I also like the Strong Cheddar Spread in Aldi - 200g for 89p.0
