The weather is poor, rain since last night and I had two doubles of whiskey.
My hospital appointment has been moved 4 times got another letter yesterday.
I do recognise the fac ti am luckier than millions and make the most of what I have
otherwise I will distance my immediate family for me if I keep
    on self-pitying.
Looking at money woes as stated we are lucky, self-made luck and got a new fridge freezer yesterday.
It was not the money that increased stress but looking for one that would sung fit into the existing compartment
and no damage when new in and old out and looks good.  That went well but the new tv/oled as different size brackets need to be refitted so this is on my mind.

A little more good news me and Mrs Diy won 25 and 75 quid respectively, this is a low lower than the going saving rates as we both now hold max savings but the possibility of winning more is always there but if I think too much about it, makes me unhappy as it is over a hundred quid down the drain this month.

I voted to leave the EU for various reasons now regret this as i now want to live in a warmer place like Portugal/Spain etc.

It is what it is and only we/I can make the most of what we have. Helping people on this forum helps and as well as getting help.

Yep, not sure why I posted this but if you are the same boat and in the UK, no matter how hard up you feel, think of the millions in the third world nations that really have it hard - we are much better off than them and own it to ourselves and them to make the most of what we have.

The coming budget statement and as LL etc, I may actually feel better if we were taxed a bit more as this will help the UK to recover more quickly.

The weather is miserable, that's very true, but there's little you can do to change this.

You can't also do something to change how you voted in the past etc. There are ways to move to Spain and Portugal if that's what you want (subject to some requirements), as there are for many other countries.

We popped out to buy coffees out this morning in a break in the rain just to be out the house for a while.

There are plenty of cheap flights at the moment if you want to get away for a bit, if you search Google Flights with 'Europe' as the destination from your local airport and '1 week in November' or similar, you should be able to find something less than £50pp return for this month plus accommodation (we've managed to book to Georgia/Armenia and back in December for sub-£150 for 2 people on self-connections via Katowice out and Vienna back, one of those is a crew fare but the discount was something like £8 on it, so not huge). Even booking a city apartment may be preferable to a hotel if you don't really want to speak to people when away and just want to unwind.

Very true re voting out of the EU and the weather here was clearing up we did a 5 min shop and as we stepped back into our home, p-ing down again. The thing is I don't like holiday but often look and dream about them as me and Mrs Diy have different ideas re hols
Many thanks for your time and effort again it is sincerely appreciated.
  • @diystarter7 I am probably a couple of decades younger than you but I wanted to say, your children are fortunate to have a parent who cares for their future as you do (I know it is a hindrance for you currently). My parents will always claim they had it harder, and when I say I am struggling mentally in a rather serious way, the attitude is "now you know how it feels".

I don't think there is anything wrong with self-pity, and I also don't think you always need to think "I have it better than others". It's what's relevant to your situation.
I do agree it feels like everything is doom at the moment and I think avoiding the news, or at least news based on hysteria, is wise for now. Additionally, even on a rainy day the outdoors is a good place to be.
Your family are fortunate to have you.

    @goo@goodwithsaving

    Good morning
Just read your post. Cheered me up, thanks.
My dad and mum to a lesser was like your parents but they both taught us to be independent and nice.
We have tried to pass on the learnings to our kids and it's worked and they are passing them on to our grandchildren.

I think parents do not want their children to have hardships, live on the edge and if they are not then the parents, rightly so want their kids to do better.

You are right about rainy day/out. Thankfully, today, here in London its sunny and we are lucky we have a south-facing lounge with a wall made of windows, helps a lot and we do aim to pop out today. Thank you.
(My medicals are making me worried sick but that does not help as advised by Mrs Diy and our kids so I try to be more positive as a being happier, less worry does help with almost everything)

Take care and enjoy your weekend :)
