Take a flask and a snack on your walk and enjoy a picnic in the fresh air.diystarter7 said:@CKhalvashi
Many thanks sadly I'm not a peoples type of man. I even dislike eating out or a cuppa as I feel unsettled and only do this during quiet times with my wife. Other than when on hols or weddings and staying at hotels i rarely eat out.
You too make many valid poisnts and these have also been noted and will try to act on them inc easting out more.2 -
I was also wondering if OP had looked at any details about SAD… especially if they aren’t out and about as much as they used to be.KxMx said:Just a point on Vitamin D, the NHS page is worth a read, I don't wish to give medical advice against the rules of the forum, so I shall leave it to the NHS

Thank you all, all of it has been read/digested etc.
I take the extra vits for years because of my skin is light brown and inside most of the time even when I worked.
I've met people with SAD and am aware of this, thanks
Life is hard but TBH, I am silly/daft/self pitying/etc/etc and trying to get out of it.
I loved whiskey and not drunk for about 10 weeks bar one treble last Sat night - i drank regularly Sat & Sunday nights so miss it but but not for long.
Yep, i need to help myself as I am in a better position than millions.
Thanks all

I second littlegreenparrot's advice - particularly the volunteering - it doesn't have to be face-to-face with people - there are bound to be small charities in your area who need back-room staff to help.diystarter7 said:Yep, i need to help myself as I am in a better position than millions.
Retirement can go on for many years - get busy and you won't have time to worry!

I did however consider charity work when I jacked in my job a few years ago after the bladder cancer thing but
became lazy and as we had a new grandchild time was taken up there with me and Mrs Diy looking after our little baby
grandchild as parents went to work/etc.
I do appreciate everyone's help but I cannot lie and feel I will remain lazy and self-pity mode, not good. (I do help around the house a bit)0 -
How about making stuff for the grandchild - some of the most precious toys we had as children were things that the grandparents had made for.diystarter7 said:Thanks but with what I'm going through medically, its a week by week thing but hoping to be around for yonks.

It is normal to not always feel 100% at all times.
I find that going for walks help, keeping in touch with loved ones, family and friends etc.
When I finished work yesterday and by 5pm looked dark, wanted to affect my mood but put things into perspective and felt better.
I find gratitude journal and music also helps.
News and social media limit your intake.
Focus on what you can control and leave the externals.Sad —> Music
Stressed —> Walk
Feeling lost —> Pray
Anxious —> Meditate

Thank you all. I am keeping an eye on this thread
We have a massive tv sky package, inc NOW TV, Netflix and Amazon Prime we joined yesterday.
I'd not seen the James Bond movie the latest one from 2019 I think it is until a bit earlier this evening.
It was so sad, the ending, I would never have guessed it - I won't spoil for the others but I wished I'd not watched it - grew up with James Bond.

Do you have enough to fill your time? That you really need to or want to do? Retiring can give you much more time to dwell on things than when work takes up a sizeable portion of your time and energy.
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

One of the grandchildren here today and we will take them to the park.
You are right as when I am busy you do forget but then it comes back.
