Mess left by carpet fitters. Advice please?

Aww silvercar, that’s awful!I went into the shop today and, yeah. They spray the floorboards so it’ll grip the underlay apparently. Re the carpet lifting when hoovered - first the guy said he’d never heard of it happening before, then claimed it was common and it will adapt into it’s new shape after 24 hours, then told me my hoover was too powerful (!) when I said I’d hoovered up all the *detritus* that was left 🧐 I just stood there looking at him with my eyebrows raised in silence (which took some bladdy willpower). He then rang the fitter to come check it tomorrow aft, as it possibly might need stretching.I’ve dug my fingers about in the stairs and I can feel some wee tacks/pins where the treads meet the risers. So the glue is my mistake entirely. We’ll see what tomorrow brings. Thanks everyone for your help (and not laughing), I do appreciate it 😀I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.2

So the guys came round again. They didn’t understand what I meant so I hoovered it in front of them. They declared it perfectly fine and normal because it’s a thicker softer carpet than the hall + landing one. The bedroom one has a softer backing so offers no resistance against the suck of the hoover. Apparently. I said well why couldn’t the guy in the shop have just told me that, would’ve saved you boys a trip, “we don’t call him Bob the Kno* for nothing” the main one said.So there we are *shrug*I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.0

I hadn't realised there was an issue other than the mess. So, your vacuum lifts the carpet? If the carpet is light enough, and the Hoover powerful ditto, then it'll happen. I think it's normal. Carpets 'float', and aren't fixed down except at their edges. But, wow, these guys sound like real pros...0

Gawd Bendy, it’s on page 2 😛
Only attached at the edges, that’s what the guys said.Oddly enough (and this where I sound like a proper snob) the guys were exactly what I expected, even though I’ve no experience. The sort of men who walk into a barbers and ask for a no1 all over so you can still see their tattoos….The main one gave me his number and said to ring him directly if there’s anything else cos ‘Bob’ is pure useless. So over all I’m happy, and am less ignorant.I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.1 -
Oh, yeah - you'll be calling him up 'directly' all rightAh, soz - I missed the passing reference to a rising carpet in a 5-page mess-melee thread... My baaaaad.I guess you must have thick piles, then. Your hoover clearly sucks, but presumably doesn't compensate for differing floor types?Which model is it? If it really struggles, you may need to go for a different model, one that compensates for floors. You could presumably turn the beater off?, but -if so - that will have a hugely detrimental effect on its performance.I doubt it'll improve in time - that would suggest the pile is disappearing!1

Aye I know, I didn’t realise it was gonna turn into a 5 page saga ha haa!I shouldn’t have sounded so disparaging about them, they were all lovely guys, but ringing him…? Aye right I will 🤪My hoover’s a Henry (page 1 😝), the original red type. The head has a brush bar thing on it that you can retract and that’s all. I tried it with and without the brush, bladdy hard going either way. It’ll prob be far easier to hoover now the bed etc is back in there, so it’s basically solved itself I guess.I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.1

What is your carpet made of? If it has wool in it, it will be rather fluffy at first and you do need to be careful to use very low power when vacuuming for the first few weeks. After a few gentle vaccumings it will calm down. I'm sorry your carpet fitters didn't give you the care advice they should have. It's expensive and not something people do that often, so they should. Mine did.
I expected to be left the remainder when my carpets were laid because I had paid for it and it was expensive, so if the carpet fitter had just gone off with it, I would have been annoyed - I could use it for the porch or as another poster said, inside a cupboard, or whatever (haven't decided yet)1 -
The carpets are all a wool twist mix. It’s only had one hoovering so far, and only on the lowest power setting.I think the best result might come from just never hoovering again ha haa!I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.0
