@Makingabobor2 - I know just what you mean re your Mum. Yesterday was my Mum's birthday - 6 years & 2 months since she died - I shall be having a warm cheese scone in her memory tomorrow as they were her absolute favourite.

Sending hugs @foxgloves.  I like to do things that were her favourite to remember her by. Wearing blue is the main thing. I rarely wear blue, I am more a pink/purple and red girl,  but everything my mum owned was a shade of blue, even the wallpaper, garage door paint, their car and the carpets.  So I will wear blue for one day to remember her.  I even wore blue to her funeral and made DH wear a blue tie, and my sister and I made sure the flowers were blue.  Mum would have loved it.

Not posted in my diary for a couple of days, but I have been reading others.   Just having that "yuk" time again, where I feel I just want to do nothing and get Christmas over with.  I'm sure its just the weather and everything affecting me.
Anyway, I have decided today I have to stop being so fed up and get on with things.  So what has been going on?

Nipped to Mr M on Monday morning for a couple of last minute bits I needed, all budgeted for. Got a couple of yellow sticker bread items.  Also nipped to C00p and used a 20p off voucher, on an already reduced packet of muffins. Couldn't decide what to to for DD and DSIL for Christmas, as most of the money is spent on the GKs. So in the end I got a cheap bottle of Rose and couple of bottles of flavoured cider and a box of choccies.  That's their favourite drinks, so that should do.  Shows I was thinking of them, without spending too much.  When you have 4 GKs to buy for, the parents don't get much.....lol.

All presents now wrapped, apart from a book I am waiting on delivery for DGS3.  Pleased that I managed to find all DGS4s presents in CS's and just added some money to make it up to the same as I spent on the others.  He is only just turned 3 and has so many toys, I didn't want to just buy loads more stuff to clutter up their house and at that age they don't appreciate clothes.  I'm sure they will all have loads of presents anyway.

Everything is just about sorted out for going away on Saturday. Just the last minute bits to pack. Not liking the look of the weather forecast for Sat & Sun up there . A lot of strong winds showing, 45+mph.  Good job we are taking our food with us, we can snuggle up and not go anywhere once we get there.  Just a pity its surrounded by so many trees :#

Still in credit with the tentacled ones, just not as much as we were.  Seem to have used a bit more than we intended last month.  But I suppose with DH having had the lurgy, we tended to turn the heating up a bit.  I'm sure we will balance it out this month.

Had quite a few P/fc studies today and got a bit to cash out later. Been a good month so far

Well, off to tidy up and get some dinner sorted now.  A nice soup made of left overs.
    Have a nice evening everyone.

  • I think there is definitely something about this time of year isn't there? Im definitely not in the spirit this year, only just put my tree up and that's because my friend came round and did it with me. I wasn't going to bother! The long dark days certainly don't help.

I get to the stage where I get fed up with spending money and going to the shops. Done most of it today, final shop on Sunday then that is it. Mind you in January all of the shops have sales that seem full of very old stock they are trying to get rid off, so no spending by me and glad when it’s February and everything gets back to normal.x

At least you’re going away for Christmas so that should cheer you up despite the weather forecast. I still miss my lovely mom every day and it’s 24 years since she passed ☹️ I think once you’ve grown up yourself and then your kids, if you have them, have grown up Christmas seems to lose its magic.
I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)
  • Totally agree about Christmasses without mums. Lost my mum eight years ago and hubby's mum five years ago. Never seems the same without them both being at the dinner table. Robins in my garden make me think of them too and I have a lovely Christmas dec that says when a robin appears, loved ones are near.
  • Thanks for all your lovely comments.  Feeling a little less stressed today, seem to be getting through the list of things to do.

So what has happened?  Well, the letter from the mortgage company has dropped through the door and we now have it in black and white that the mortgage is well and truly paid off.  So that is a great Christmas present we have given each other.

Quick check of the spread sheets and bank accounts today, showed up a £58 error.  I think I may have inadvertently paid it to next year's holiday pot by mistake, but not to worry, I have tallied everything up and its not big deal as there is no mortgage to pay this month..... :D, so I have adjusted the spread sheet and all will be ok at the start of the year.  All ready to start throwing money at the other debts now, and also DH wants to start a New Car savings pot, which makes sense. So got to work all that out as well.  Also altered the amount we pay to the Teeth & Glasses pot ( commonly known as our NHS pot, as we also use it for vitamins and DH's prescriptions), and also upped the amount going to the House Stuff pot from January.

Pegged the washing out, even though it was dull, as it has been very windy here today,. Pleased to say it had dried quite well, will just finish it off in front of the radiators.

Done a few P/fc studies today, but not had time to look at any others, but maybe will give them a quick whizz to see if anything about.

Dinner tonight is some lambs liver in the SC with potatoes, courgette, sweet potato, swede,  broccoli  and the one remaining carrot that needed using up.  DH will moan as he is not a liver fan, but to me it is good old fashioned comfort food.  I see a lot of the supermarkets are starting the 15p veg from tomorrow.  Last year we got loads, but as we are going away Saturday morning, I'm not sure if I have time to prep them all for the freezer. I'll see, might see if I can go down first thing.

So that's about it for today, not much interesting stuff to report really.  It has been a NSD, so that is one good thing.

Hope everyone has a good evening.

I've seen somewhere that Lid! are reducing theirs to 9p. Mr M are doing some for 10p as just added to my online order for tomorrow. As it's mostly root veg it should keep without you having to freeze it. You could always deal with it when you get back.  I keep my root veg in the fridge and it lasts for ages. Potatoes are kept in a brown paper sack in a dark place and likewise they last for ages.

Yes that's true. I will need a few carrots to take with us and some parsnips anyway.  Already got the spuds and also some frozen steamed type veg, so I'm not cooking all the time. Pity they don't do cheap Broccoli, that's my favourite veg. Going self catering might be cheap, but it makes me have to think too hard about what I need to take....if you could see how many bags I have already got full. One is just full of chocolate, marzipan fruits, panettone, puddings, snacks, Baileys and Harvey's Bristol Cream and pink prosecco!   Think I'll definitely try and get down to Mr M first thing. That's the nearest, apart from Asd*, which I avoid like the plague!  Awful place to shop
