I notice you have had contradictory advice on your post in the Stepchange Debt advisors thread.
Stepchange advice will almost always differ from those who try to be pro-active about their debt, and how to deal with it, they are mainly creditor funded, and will always stick to the official line.

Yes, I noticed that too. It's an illustration of the way debt advice is heading.
We are being leaned on to warn clients of all the things that CAN happen, rather than use our experience to say what is likely to happen.
If your GP had to work under the same rules, every time you saw him/her they would have to tell you all the things that could possibly go wrong with you and tell you about all the treatments you weren't going to get.6 -
Hi guys
OK, I have cancelled the dd on:
Hsbc card
MBna card
Shawbrook bank
Based on when they are due that should start things 'rolling' arround the end of month.
Once natiownide card arrives I'll do the necessary with the rest.
Won't lie, on tenterhooks as feels like a perosnal failure but best foot forward eh?4 -
Well that didn't take long.
Cancelled my dd with shawbrook (not even due till nxt week) and they are already spamming me with calls.0 -
We blocked all creditors numbers from phone & wrote a standard letter to all of them, explaining situation, telling them to only contact us via post or email, and also asking for interest to be stopped as we started our DMP. Most of them agreed ASAP, although there was one who carried on adding interest until after a few letters, where I laid it on a bit thick and told them it was affecting my mental health, they eventually apologised and refunded the interest we had paid since the first letter. Make sure you keep copies of ALL correspondence though.Making the debt go down and savings go up

I think you should be proud for taking action. You and your family will be all the better for it. I know how hard it is- we’re at the start of our journey too1

Well done for making the start to a new debt free future, like so many here I have been through what you are now, and can tell you that once the scary letters fail to work and defaulys are issued things do get a lot easier, as that is the point where the interest will stop and you can start to do your DMP knowing that you can now reduce the debt each month without having huge amounts of interest added to the total. You can do this, atay strong and this time nezt year you will be in a much better positionCredit card debt - NIL
Home improvement secured loans 30,130/41,000 and 23,156/28,000 End 2027 and 2029
Mortgage 64,513/100,000 End Nov 2035
2022 all rolling into new mortgage + extra to finish house. 125,000 End 20360 -
Well done on taking the first steps. They are the hardest and you are not a failure for wanting things to get better for you and your family. I qam sure you will sleep better for taking the first step.
