I've had a hands free opener. It was lovely to watch - until a tin of pineapple defeated it and it never worked again. I hadn't had it long. I seemed to be constantly paying for new openers for a while so I gave up and try to get pull ring cans.

This autumn decluttering the book shelves in my spare room I have reused them for storage of dried and tinned goods by a few extra bits over the past few months. My kitchen cupboards are fairly full of stuff and it was becoming difficult to find more room. its worked out really well as I have more than enough cereal, oats, tea bags, rice and pasta etc to see me through the winter. Also have a good stock of tinned stuff, potatoes, veg etc.If I see a bargain that will store for a lenth of time I will buy it and it goes up into the spare room in my 'emergency stash' I even have spare detergent and washing up liquid up there
if the weather turns bad I will be fine as being slightly disabled I make a point of staying in when its icy, as falling and breaking something at my age isn't a good move for either my bones or cluttering up NHS beds
Its my ' squirrelling stash'

I have one of these shops nearby. Unfortunately DW isn't as squirrel-stash happy as me, and says things like "You only need one bag of pasta, not five!", "Stop buying rice!" and "Honey, what's in this cupboard?"... So I haven't been in yet!
And that's the line my OH uses no matter what cupboard he looks in and even if what he's looking for is front and centre. I call it male pattern blindness. Himself has male pattern blindness (😆), used to drive me mental. Then I started treating him like a nawty dog - ignoring him - and he cured himself 👏🏻 Well I dunno if he stopped looking for stuff or just gave up asking, but either way it’s a win.I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.4

Yep - tea can definitely go past it’s best - I learned this when I bought a catering size pack a few years ago. I love a cuppa but it was getting to be quite a struggle towards the end of the bag!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

I find teabags do go off if not wrapped up properly. Decant to an airtight container and they last much longer. I wonder if this is why tea used to be stored in tins?2

working on the principle that I wouldn't open any particular pack of tea or coffee until I had finished the last I think that they will be ok - most seem to be packaged in silver plastic and even if not would be stored in a dry environment so unlikely to turn nasty or grow legs.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards.
