£14.50 in Mr S if that helps any if you are in one or order from them. Never bought it for more than £15 yet. What they want on that site you showed is a ridiculous amount and would certainly come under an example of price rises!
It has handled all cans I've put to it so far, including ones where the pull ring came off!
Can't work out who Mr S is!
I've had a hands free opener. It was lovely to watch - until a tin of pineapple defeated it and it never worked again. I hadn't had it long. I seemed to be constantly paying for new openers for a while so I gave up and try to get pull ring cans.
I did discover when the metal lip broke on a can of corned beef that a strong pair of kitchen scissors cut through the metal can easily,

I wish I had one of those shops near me, I’d never be out of them.

Actually no I don’t, for I’ve no room!
We have one near us, and it can be really good. But I find that the majority of items available are non essentials (ie, crisps, chocolate, fizzy drinks). Don't get me wrong, I enjoy those products, but they aren't my priority when I'm budgeting. There are exceptions, of course, but I find the vast majority to be those kinds of items.

A friend has alerted me to the fact that a niche tea (sorry forgot the brand) has 4 boxes for £3.  Normally these are about £3 per box.  The date on them is next April which is fine and besides tea doesn't go off like some things.
If not stored correctly it can go as my mother would have said 'fousty' it seems after the war she once stocked pile tea in case there was another war and they rationed it and it went off.  Although TBH they were living in a old cottage with no electricity at the time so it could have got damp!

  • Yep - tea can definitely go past it’s best - I learned this when I bought a catering size pack a few years ago. I love a cuppa but it was getting to be quite a struggle towards the end of the bag!

I find teabags do go off if not wrapped up properly. Decant to an airtight container and they last much longer. I wonder if this is why tea used to be stored in tins?

working on the principle that I wouldn't open any particular pack of tea or coffee until I had finished the last I think that they will be ok - most seem to be packaged in silver plastic and even if not would be stored in a dry environment so unlikely to turn nasty or grow legs.
