I bought a Braun 8500 (on the recommendation of this board) - taking up the half price offer at Boots. I got it home and realise that you need to plug it into a two-pin (shaver?) socket. Well, I live in a bedsit so I don't have one of those. I've bought an adaptor plug so that the two pin can fit into the usual three pin socket (hope that makes sense), but I cannot get the toothbrush to charge.
I'm sure it's simple, but can someone please tell me why the brush might not be charging. I've already taken the original purchase back to Boots and swopped it, so I'm sure the charger is fine, but what do I need to do to get the thing charged up and ready to go?
Hope someone can help.
Thanks,
Hiphouse
You should just plug the adapter into the 3 pin plug, plug the charger into the adapter, and put the toothbrush onto the charger.
I can't remember what's on the 8500 in the way of a display, but if a light comes on on it, or the LCD screen starts up, then something is happening.
As Sandy said, the initial charge does take a fair while, but you should get some indication from the toothbrush that there is power there.
If this one is faulty as well, it could just be a bad batch of chargers. I would take it to the shop if it doesn't seem to be working (Along with your adapter) and ask them to plug it in to see if it is working. How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -

that's why you should be using an electric toothbrush! it's so easy to continue overbrushing with a manual toothbrush. Then the receeding gums will cause you sensitivity, make your teeth look longer and the exposed dentine usually will turn yellow! Don't overbrush! please0 -
Here are good electric toothbrushes from an expert and independent source. (I dunno if Im allowed to mention it
)
a. Oral B Triumph 9900 with Smart Guide - they usually cost £140 but they are half price at Boots at the moment. (£69.99
b. Phillips Sonicare Elite.
c. Oral B Professional Care 7000 This cost around £20-40.
All electric Toothbrushes are half price at boots. You have till midnight to get the triple points.
Hope that helps.Do Something Amazing- Give Blood0 -
Thanks for all the responses to my message. I bought an standard adaptor to get the two point plug on the toothbrush to fit the standard three point socket... should I have got something else? Is there a specific adaptor for a shaver point?
At present, no light comes on when the toothbrush is filled in. If someone could answer about the adaptor so that I can sort that out, I'd be very grateful. Otherwise I'll have to take this one back to Boots too!
Thanks again for all your help

Hi, If your adaptor plug looks like an ordinary 3-pin plug EXCEPT that it has two holes where you put your toothbrush charging lead then I think you have got the right one. If you connect your toothbrush lead to this and plug it in (and sorry for this - make sure it's switched on) and put your toothbrush on the charging unit and it doesn't work call into Boots with the lot and ask them to check it for you. It could be the adaptor. What does it say in your instructions about charging length? Hope you get it sorted.
I just bought 2 Oral Bs at Argos (half price) £14.98 each with 2 min.timers, the ones that don't let you brush too hard, Professional Care 5000 and got 20% off Brush heads for buying them at the same time. Got 2 x 4 packs for £11.58 (£5.79 each). A pressie for me and one for my son - upgrades on our old Oral Bs. And an adaptor plug so I can keep mine separate from his. I'm sure you all know at 61p it's the cheapest thing in Argos (I only know that 'cos I read it on this site!).0 -
I don't think a shaver 2 pin is the same as an ordinary 2 pin. The pins on my Oral B were quite short, probably best to take the charger unit back to Boots with adaptor and get their advice0

Hello,
Looking at the posts it looks like Oral B comes on top of the sonicare models. Am looking to buy one this week as they're still half price at Boots, but which one?
The 9500 looks good but then there is the new 9900 with wireless thingybob. Is this just a gimmick or is it actually useful and therefore the best toothbrush around??
thanks for your help!:beer:0 -
9500 is excellent.
The wireless thing is just a gadget for the sake of it, but sometimes these toys help keep things interesting! How to find a dentist.
