  • My OH uses one and swear that her teeth feel cleaner. Must admit they look nice and clean too. We just bought a basiv Braun rechargeable sonic one for about £15. Try one of them first, loads on offer this time of the year in boots, Argos or Superdrug.

Sonic ones are OK, but the oscillating/pulsating action of the Oral B/Braun units is probably more thorough.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.
  • aha.... the oral b ones are half price in tescos and wilkos at the mo... but it seems that the wilkos prices are a bit lower to start off with - just got a nice oscillating/pulsating one from wilkos for £14 odd... its £38 in the tescos catalogue.

My dentist and the consultant I see at the dental hospital both say that the Oral B oscillators do a better job (as long as the person operating it does a good job too)
I had a Sonicare when they first came out but my dentist told me to stop using it and use an oscillator instead
  • Thanks..is the oscillating type just an ordinary electric toothbrush? I have an Oral B Advance power at the mo.

Decided to give up on the sonic - have returned it to Braun and am waiting for my refund.

Got a new electric one - much more to my liking. :D

    Thanks for all your replies.
  • I've had my Sonicare toothbrush for years and wouldn't use anything else. Your teeth feel as if they have been cleaned at the dentist every day.
  • When I asked my dentist's advice before replacing a Braun oscillating toothbrush, he warned me against it as I suffer from sensitive teeth. He said that many of his patients had reported that sonic toothbrushes made their sensitivity problems worse.
  • Huge yes! I have the Phillips Sonicare and swear by it.
I personally don't understand people who will go and spend £80 on a haircut but baulk at spending similar on a toothbrush...
Sometimes you get what you deserve... :cool2:
