I bought a Sonicare for around £65 and my dentist told me I'd be better off with my old Oral B Triumph (cost me around £45 when I bought it). He says the head is much better for cleaning thoroughly as it's round. Apparently the Sonicare doesn't get right into the molars but it's good for your gums. Now I'm using both but much prefer my Oral B. And the heads are so much cheaper!"How far you go in life depends on you being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and the strong. Because someday in life you will have been all of these."0

The oscillating/pulsating action of the 'ordinary' Braun Oral B is a much better tooth cleaner.
My dentist said exactly the same. I bought a Sonicare when they first came out thinking I was doing the best for my gum health (history of mixed connective tissue disorders in family so prone to gum problems).
After 6 months of using it my hygenist asked what the hell I had been doing to my gums and immediately suggested I go back to a small headed manual.
I now use an Oral B oscillating brush and my gums are great :T0 -
Hi,
Looking to buy a new toothbrush. Does anyone here use either the Braun Triumph 9500 or Braun Professional 7000 electric model? Everything I've read seems to favour them, with those that have bought the 9500 giving only positive reviews. But is the 9500 really worth the extra £60 over the 7000?
Thanks.

If you search for toothsmith's posts he had one recently about how to judge electric and sonic toothbrushes. It was really illuminating and resulted in me dumping my very old electric toothbrush and going back to manual....0

One probably for the dentists on here...
Is there much of a difference between those new fangled expensive toothbrushes and say, a tesco value one? Are toothbrushes on of those areas where you get what you pay for?
cheers!!You lied to me Edward. There IS a Swansea. And other places.....

I only buy cheap toothbrushes, buthave won an expensiveone. It makes my outh feel a lot cleaner than a cheapy one. Whenit comes to buying a new one, I'll probably go halfway between cheapy and expensive.
Ionly buy the kids cheapy ones as they chew them up :mad:0 -
Good question vik6535. I hope one of the dentists on the forum will reply. I buy fairly cheap toothbrushes for me and my partner but we do change them every 3-4 months as I know that bacteria builds up on them.0

It is important to change toothbrushes frequently.
Dearer ones tend to have much better bristles. Softer, and the ends are microscopically much rounder - which over the years will do your gums less harm than the sharper bristles of a cheaper toothbrush.
All brushes should be changes every 3 months at least. How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -

I've just bought a colgate 360' at almost £4 but it really is the best toothbrush i have ever had. It has some bristles longer than the others and also a special tongue cleaner on the back of the head. My teeth are looking whiter too which i believe is down to the new brush.
I bought some Morrisons Betterbuy too 4 for £1... to clean round my taps lol0
