The NHS works on quarter days, so they are currently looking for those who will be 50 by the quarter day following the end of the booster vaccine period. I wouldn’t be surprised if the invite is extended to all those who will be 50 by the end of March 2022.

  • My birthday actually falls later than that but it may explain it. Just thought it may be down to low uptake or something, a case of not wanting to waste vaccines.

Definitely not a low uptake where I live I just stood in a queue for 3hr to get mine at my local doctors surgery, and most of the queue were pensioners like myself.

Weird, I am 50 and my husband is 61 but we are not eligible yet. I thought it was over 65’s and vunerable now according to 119. They also told me that they wouldn’t be going lower than 65 unless they are vunerable

Being told you are eligible doesn’t mean that you have yet had an invite.

  • Sorry, I should have been more clear, the email (and sms) actually told me to book my vaccination now (and that I was eligible to do so).

Sorry I should of been clearer. 119 told me that they won’t be doing anyone under 65 at all unless vunerable x

At the moment it is over 65s, vulnerable, carers (both paid and unpaid), people who live with immune suppressed and also some children.
Over 50's will be getting a jab but not at the moment (unless you fit into one of the other categories through health or caring responsibilities or living with someone that qualifies you).

There are always some geographical areas ahead of others (as demonstrated by David Cameron who was a well publicised early case).
If 119 told you that they won't be doing under 65's at all (rather than now) then the person you spoke to is wrong and there is plenty of information to say over 50's will be getting a booster later in the autumn.
The OP appears to be an exception. Perhaps his/her area are on a pilot scheme, had some spares or are well ahead.
Or perhaps he/she is wrongly recorded. My husband was originally in group 9 and not group 6 so it does happen.
    We can only guess.
The scale is also such that it cannot be done evenly across the country.

BTW - I know of several people who been called in the 16-65 moderately clinically vulnerable group. This was previously group 6 and between the 65 year olds (group 5) and the 60 year olds (group 7), so this implies they are now working on inviting group 6.

first phase groups list is here
    COVID-19 vaccination first phase priority groups - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

The best thing you can do in the meantime is get a flu jab.

    That makes sense. Thank you.

I don’t have a problem about not being eligible at all and I had my flu jab last month although not sure why you suggested it on a Covid thread.

Funnily enough, my neighbour just told me that they aren’t going below 65 as it has cost too much for all the free vaccines and tests and they need to recoup so it sounds like a rumour going around which isn’t helpful.

Your explanation makes much more sense, thanks x

I mentioned it both because its a closely related public health issue and also because for people like you and I the only practical step we can take.
There are concerns about a "twindemic" this winter.
The message from the NHS is for everyone eligible to take both vaccines when offered.

    The latest NHS info says

How to get a booster dose of the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine - NHS (www.nhs.uk)

"Currently certain people are being prioritised for getting a seasonal booster. Others, including those aged 50 to 64 who are not at higher risk, will be able to get it later in the autumn 2022"

I think you're right, your neighbour is spreading a rumour.
